What Guests Are Saying

Moraine Campground offers a spacious and well-maintained environment, perfect for family camping and exploring nearby Kings Canyon. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, excellent hiking opportunities, and beautiful views, with a refreshing river nearby for cooling off. However, the campground is known for bear activity, which can lead to noise from car alarms at night, and some facilities may need improvement, such as bathroom cleanliness and better food storage education. Overall, it’s a lovely camping spot with room for improvement.

Wonderful location, with plenty of shade, close to many trailheads or bouldering areas.

The campsite itself was great, very spacious, and super close to the river and a village market. The only thing that was that the bathroom closest to us was completely closed due to maintenance and we never saw a ranger. I would definitely bring bug spray for u and ur dog (our pit got eaten up even with a sweater on) and fill ur gas tank up before heading into the park because the drive was very long (BUT BEAUTIFUL)!

First time to Kings Canyon. Have camped at Sunset Campground in Sequoia Nat'l Park but never took the trek down to Kings Canyon and WOW!!! great views all around. A real gem. Described as "Yosemite without the crowds" and they were right! Moraine is one of the last campgrounds past the Cedar Grove center. We arrived about 1pm and in full sun i wasn't sure i would like it but in the morning and afternoon/evening you get some good shade from the trees. Sentinel (at the Cedar Grove) looked nicer - more shade from the trees, but those campsites also looked pretty close together. We booked for Memorial Day weekend, and although it was fully booked, not all the campsites were used the whole time so it felt spacious. Went to the end of the road and hiked back to the Roaring River Falls. Great hike, lots of different ecosystems along the way (granite rocks, woods, meadow, etc). Will def be back again!

It’s past time for a remodel of this campground. It pails in comparison to Sunset campground in the same park. The roads are in bad shape and most of the campsites should be leveled and graded and some walking paths would be a great addition.

Entire campsite is very uneven, not a single flat spot. Luckily, we have a rooftop tent and didn’t need to setup a tent on the uneven ground. None of the campsites are groomed or maintained, tons of pinecones and needles everywhere, looks very neglected. Closest restroom was closed even the outdoor dish washing sink water was off and had to walk to another one in the middle of the campsite with no visible trail or markings leading you to them, basically had to walk thru other peoples campsites to get to the restroom. Also the restrooms didn’t get cleaned all weekend and were filthy with no lights. Location is great close to a lot of the best parts of Kings Canyon and next to the river which isn’t really accessible. Also walking distance to the lodge.

The campground overall was good. We stayed at Camp #03, the ground was very uneven and full to small stones. We couldn't find flat ground to setup tent. Struggled a lot all night to sleep because of the uneven surface and stones. Some of the other camp sites were good, but definitely not #03.

General

  • If your campsite remains vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date it will be cancelled and made available on rec.gov. You will be charged for the first night's campsite fee and a $10 cancellation fee, all other fees after that will be refunded. Recreation.gov policies apply to all reservations, cancellations, refunds and date changes.  Call (559) 565-3792 if you will be arriving 24 hours after your arrival date so your site won't be cancelled. Upon making a campground reservation: Site occupants agree to follow ALL campground rules. Failure to comply may result in a fine. You are responsible for your guests.
  • Quiet Hours 10pm to 6am- Music, talking, and generators should not be audible beyond your immediate campsite. Unreasonable noise is prohibited any time of day.
  • Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki.   Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum.  Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.    Falling Objects- Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.   A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
