What Guests Are Saying
Sheep Creek Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful setting with spacious, well-maintained sites close to the South Fork of the Kings River. Campers appreciate the scenic drive, clean facilities, and friendly park personnel, making it an excellent base for hiking and exploring the area. While there are no garbage bins on-site and some wish for shower access, the overall experience is highly rated, with many eager to return.

We loved our stay in this beautiful campsite. It was an awesome week even though it was too hot we have fun!

I love Sheep Creek. I have been going there for over 50 years and feel a bit protective of it... But, the park service can only blame so much on the pandemic. First, the bathrooms were the filthiest I have EVER seen a National Park bathroom. Obviously not being cleaned AT ALL. Hey, don't open a campground 100% if you have no ability to maintain it. Second, there was a campfire ban in the campground. We, sadly, observed that ban. However, 1/4 the campground did not. And, the rangers were driving through, ignoring the campfires, not even getting out of their truck. Really?
Kings Canyon WAS hot, but there is much river to cool in. BUT, National Park Service, you are not taking care of my park!!!

The area was nice, I had three kids and they were all able to play in the creek, also walk to the roaring water fall.

The park has unbeatable scenery. We had 4 nights reserved at this campground at three different campsites. We fished and swam everyday, and it helped us getaway from the loud hustle and bustle of the campground. For example, loud music from other campers, certain campers having wood campfires when ordered not to, having to help other campers with their stuck vehicle because they parked in the wrong spot and the rangers refused to help, campers drunk driving around the campsites, a seemingly non existent quiet time at night, listening to a drunk mom cussing at her crying child at midnight, people crying wolf about bears, and maybe a few other audible memories. I easily avoided this commotion by waking up at 5am and being the first person on the water before all the swimmers scared the trout. While fishing, my girlfriend took a stroll to the visitor center to ask if we could simplify our multiple reservations to one single campsite. Neither they nor recreation.gov were willing help and bounced her back and forth between the two agencies. Although every site had a "reserved" sign on it, many of them were unoccupied (and somehow the campground sounded like a mild frat party). It actually seems like people hate working here at the park. The only nice worker we encountered was Kathy at the Cedar Grove Village, and the rugged mountain man who sold delicious ice cream on the way. After having to waste half of our day moving to our second reserved campsite, we decided to sacrifice our $22 investment on our third campsite and venture on. I felt good helping a fellow camper before we left. He was hitchhiking to his car at Roads End because his wife struggled during a hike. She probably wouldn't have died, but I was able to see why some people might. Will I come back here? Probably not. I didn't hate staying here, I just expected to be closer to nature rather than deal with urban civilization on my vacation. When we got home, we finally experienced some silence.

Wife and I really enjoyed our time here. A little loud, a little crowded but it was the 4th of July weekend. I can't blame the park for that.
