What Guests Are Saying
Granite Flat campground is praised for its beautiful location near the Truckee River, clean facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a popular choice for annual visits. Many campers appreciate the easy access to outdoor activities like biking and floating, and the well-maintained restrooms add to the positive experience. However, road noise from nearby Highway 89 is a common concern, particularly at night, which can detract from the overall tranquility of the site.

Special spot on river close to biking trails and downtown. Host and hostess were fantastic. Our 3rd yr in row stating here at site 4!! Ran into lots of peeps driving around looking for sites at dusk…so discouraging as the CG was full. Have a reservation on weekends.

Cars passed way too fast and a lot of people were stopping on the side of the road. The tents are very close to the road so it’s hard to sleep I love Lake Tahoe. I just had a terrible experience experience at this campground.

Located beside the Truckee River, the campground would have been ideal BUT the traffic noise from Hwy. 89 was a strong negative. This is a dry-camping facility with pit toilets and water spigots. The toilets were kept clean by camp hosts. Overall, it seemed many repairs needed to be made... signs broken off at the ground, writing on the campground map, weeds encroaching on sites. The thrill though was watching the bears descend from the rocks across the river and down into the river. Two cubs happily got into the river to drink and explore.

We chose this location for its location. I have stayed here 3 times now. It is close to Truckee, and not far from Tahoe. The camp hosts were great and overall it was clean and enjoyable. The sites offer some separation and screening. This is an excellent camp to launch bike rides from which is part of my reason for choosing it.
Now, the downside is that this campground is right on CA89. This is a very busy highway and the road noise is quite loud. It quiets down late at night, but frankly, I never get used to it during the day. It is part of the tradeoff so if your reasons for the location outweigh the noise (as in my case), then it's tolerable. I would close by saying that this is not a destination campground, and staying beyond 3 nights would cause it to run its course. I primarily use it as a stopover when visiting california from out of state. I have stayed from 1-3 nights.

Campground is well maintained and next to a lovely river, but also next to a loud road.

Clean campground. 6 persons per site is not enforced. Our neighbors encroached on out site with 8 tents and 20 people in the end. Noise, intoxicated people and music at all hours. Camp hosts did respond and get them to turn down the music both nights but all the extra people stayed and partied.

Campground was clean and my site was fairly level. The grounds were clean and well maintained. I was pleased that I had just enough cell reception to use my phone and even stream some entertainment before bed. The camp host was pleasant. I will return to this campsite.
