When I tried making the reservation the only available sites were the side of the road sites. We could just barely fit our trailer in with the entry door positioned between the large rocks. Almost all other sites were empty the two nights we were there. We were informed by the campground host that they were booked by travel agents or vacation planners using bots to secure them for later resell. We would like to have used one of those sites but we’re not allowed to even though there were no show campers. Recreation.gov needs to filter out these type of reservations so actual campers can use them.

Our family had a fantastic stay at Cottonwood Campground. The wide, uninterrupted night skies were spectacular for astronomy, and the kids had a wonderful time. The facilities, including the flush toilets and the overall grounds, were exceptionally well-maintained.
I was particularly impressed at the RV filling station on our second day when we met a park ranger actively testing the potable water quality. It is inherently difficult to supply running water to such an arid, remote desert environment, and ensuring it remains safe to drink requires significant logistical effort. A big thank you to the dedicated park rangers for their hard work!

Too close to bathroom.
Fire pit was right at the door of the bathroom.

The hike to the mine that starts at the campground was a good morning hike.
