About Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground recently had a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the campsites. Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites. Thank you!Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8.6 ft. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.

We tried for 3 days to move to a Handicap spot that was open. My understanding is handicap has priority over others. Apparently not. Placards don’t matter to them. Won’t return there!

The Rangers were amazing. They did a very balanced job of explaining the very real and present situation with bears in the campground w/out promoting fear. Our camp site was immaculate. The fire pit. The provided bear locker was clean and worked perfect. And the stars at night were off the hook. We've come multiple years here and it never disappoints. WELL DONE.

Tuolumne Campground makeover is a huge success! It was closed for 3 years, and they did a great job in many areas of the campground. Most visible is the amazing job the "restoration planters" did in planting thousands of native plants and grasses in the ground that had been bulldozed and run over by heavy equipment. It is beautiful. If you have a chance to camp here, it is a real bucket list destination. Stay at least 2 nights, so you have one day to walk around and enjoy the sights. But you have to reserve early. Don't despair if you don't get a site. There are frequent cancellations, so keep checking back. And set up the notification that Rec.gov allows you to set up, for openings. The most popular hike is the one to Cathedral Lake, but unless you are acclimated to the altitude or quite fit, it is a really tough hike. The hike along the Tuolumne River, on the way down to Glen Aulin is much more enjoyable, but stop at "the bridge" about 3 mi down river, and then head back. The steep descent to Glen Aulin, if you keep going past the bridge, is a very tough return.
The grocery store and "The Grill" next door has surprisingly reasonable prices. The nightly "Campfire talks" by the Rangers can be excellent. Not all rangers are gifted talkers or story tellers) but they clearly care very much about their topics. These fireside talks at night are often very family oriented, with kids not only welcome, but encouraged to participate in the talks. The Ranger staff and Volunteer hosts are incredible. I had some special circumstances, (my car broke down) and they were so helpful and caring. Shout out to Stephanie, TMCG ranger

The re construction of Tuolumne meadows has made ALL the the labled accessible sites excellent. My biggest complaint is that accessible sites are not saved for those that has accessibility needs. Anyone can reserve them. So the biggest users are those with large RVs.

The campground is beautiful and very well maintained and comfortable.
The rangers and staff are GREAT.

The following is TERRIBLE:
I had very limited daylight time at the campground because I spent so much daylight figuring out that Yosemite has the abhorrent policy of campground reservations available only online, and then driving around seeking wi-fi at Yosemite, and toggling between different wi-fi-enabled devices (which luckily I had with me, but should NOT be required to have, to camp at Yosemite!!) until I could make a reservation .... not arriving to the campground until after sunset, missing several other daylight opportunities on the way there, as well.

This is in addition to Yosemite's abhorrent policy requiring credit card, and not allowing cash, for entry into the park.

Shame on you, Yosemite, for discriminating against people who don't have, or who would rather not use, credit cards and wi-fi devices.
And shame on you for putting your great rangers and other staff in the position of having to help those visitors navigate this discriminatory practice, or having to tell those visitors they won't be allowed to experience the park and/or campground they potentially spent much time and money to travel to.

There is NO good-willed legitimate reason for these discriminatory no-cash and online-only policies, and if you truly think there are, then contact me asap, and I'll show you other solutions for your concerns, where cash payments and in-person reservations CAN work just fine (as they have for the previous century or so) (See my phone number left in the private comment on this form.)

HUGE hanks to your great rangers and staff (many of whom say your discriminatory policies make their jobs harder and exclude many people from visiting or camping or getting permits from Yosemite), and shame on whoever had ANY hand in instituting these policies in the first place.

We asked for more privacy and site to be by woods; we were so close to a large parking lot and loud group campers. The campers on other side were also close and had bright lights on talking pretty loud through the night; we decided not to camp the 2nd night that we paid for. Wood I carried back from store was $18 for 1 fire. It was about 39 degrees at night, froze, so only briefly saw Lake Tenaya and waited in a long line to get back thru to our site, so we left early the next morning.
