About Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground recently had a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the campsites. Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites. Thank you!Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8.6 ft. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.

Peace and alpine air. What else could we want?

The area is full of activities and hikes one can do around. The river is lovely to bathe in when it’s too hot in the summer. We especially liked the meadows and the story about the hermit that lived there.

We visited dog lake and Elizabeth lake. Both beautiful! Hiking up to Lembert dome was the highlight!

Also the rangers were fostering community inviting everyone to the campfire. We were looking more of an introvert experience but I think this is great for people that come with kids.

Campground was closed for THREE years so the NPS could do "upgrades". The bathrooms are still old and falling apart. If you go in to one after dark better bring a headlamp because there are no lights in there. Seems like they could have put in at least one motion activated light. The toilet paper is so thin you can see through it. Whoever is running the park should be forced to use it their home for a while and see how they like it.
The NPS did put in a nice community fire circle. The rest of the campground is still the same disorganized mess. Some sites are on slopes, so hard to find a flat spot to put a tent, some are right on top of each other, some have drainage issues so when it rains they flood. The entry gate on Tioga gets totally backed up at certain times so just to get in to the park can take an inordinate amount of time. It seems like they could have put in a special lane for folks with a NP Pass to help with traffic flow. An automated gate that could scan a park pass would do wonders to smooth things out.
When you are staying in the campground, even after you've checked in and receive your windshield pass, if you just want to drive somewhere, when you return you may get stuck backed up at the ranger kiosk, because there is no way to go around, and get to your site.
I love Yosemite, but the Park service seems extremely inefficient in managing the visitor and the facilities. I often wonder if the people managing the park, actually hve ever stayed in the campgrounds, or had to use the facilites they are in charge of.

Unfortunately the most beautiful campground in Yosemite has fallen victim to city money. What used to be the most majestic family campground in the high sierras is now a wide paved highway, catering to high speed campers. Smaller sites, faster cars and a non camper or environment friendly “search and rescue” camp, moved in during the unnecessary renovations. Such a shame.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. We love Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite. The campground doesn’t have showers which is a little rough for us, but we made do. It’s an incredible place.

Campground is finally open after years of renovation and repairs. The sites are the basically the same same, shaded on a slope. The gas station was not replaced. Campground was full on a weekday, reservations should be made early. There was not a lot of privacy because the sites are close together. But the isolation from overcrowded Yosemite Valley makes for a very relaxing experience. Spectacular scenery all around. I saw deer and hawks. Short trails along Toulumne River are flat and peaceful. Trail to nearby Cathedral Lakes (4.5 mi one way) is crowded but the beauty is rewarding. Overnight backpacks are numerous. Young Lakes ( about 7 mi one way) is steep but with three different lakes in one area you are bound to find the perfect camp spot. Lakes around Vogelsang Camp closer but not as scenic. Be prepared for possible rain showers. Sun was out for me on last trip.
