About Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground recently had a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the campsites. Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites. Thank you!Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8,600 feet. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.

Unfortunately the most beautiful campground in Yosemite has fallen victim to city money. What used to be the most majestic family campground in the high sierras is now a wide paved highway, catering to high speed campers. Smaller sites, faster cars and a non camper or environment friendly “search and rescue” camp, moved in during the unnecessary renovations. Such a shame.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. We love Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite. The campground doesn’t have showers which is a little rough for us, but we made do. It’s an incredible place.

Campground is finally open after years of renovation and repairs. The sites are the basically the same same, shaded on a slope. The gas station was not replaced. Campground was full on a weekday, reservations should be made early. There was not a lot of privacy because the sites are close together. But the isolation from overcrowded Yosemite Valley makes for a very relaxing experience. Spectacular scenery all around. I saw deer and hawks. Short trails along Toulumne River are flat and peaceful. Trail to nearby Cathedral Lakes (4.5 miles one way) is crowded but the beauty is rewarding. Overnight backpacks are numerous. Young Lakes ( about 7 miles one way) is steep but with three different lakes in one area you are bound to find the perfect camp spot. Lakes around Vogelsang Camp closer but not as scenic. Be prepared for possible rain showers. Sun was out for me on last trip.

As ever, the most beautiful spot in the park (for me). The campground had been renovated/restored, and is lovely and easy to walk around, with easy access to the river, the camp stope, and trailheads.
The worst part of it are the new fire pits, which are very deep and inconvenient (ours had the extra plus of being beneath a triangle of trees with low growing branches). There are two grills which lower into and over the pit, and the upper one has handles that stick out far enough (and at just at the height of our knees) to teach us a lesson or two (or more) at keeping our distance. Since the pit is so deep, there was no point in enjoying a fire once it got dark, as we had to sit almost directly against the pit to get any warmth. I understand these pits may have been built with the idea of avoiding sparks from spreading, but from our side (up on the hill) we could look down and see MANY fires blazing high above the fire pits... they are almost an invitation to build a fire as high as possible.

Sites are super tiny and very close to each other. Site C074 flat area to put up tent(s) is right next to the parking for this site and site C075. Due to the close proximity to the surrounding sites the campground is very noisy and you get smoked out no matter what. The only good thing about the campground is the location. Other than that I would not recommend it. The signage to get around in the campground is a joke. We got lost multiple times and we observed several other people getting lost and going the wrong way. Ranger came around maybe once a day and did not reminded folks of the campground rules.

Check in and check out was smooth. Staff was super friendly. Campground was well equipped with bear storage, drinking water and clean restrooms.
