About Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground recently had a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the campsites. Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites. Thank you!Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8.6 ft. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.

Incredible campground; so quiet, large sites, spread out, and right next to river and meadow. Loved the new bathrooms, new picnic tables and quiet bear boxes. We can’t wait to come back!

Front country camping in Yosemite is a nightmare. If you think you are going to be getting away into nature don’t get your hopes up. The staff are campground is amazing, the facilities are kept up…other campers are what makes this place miserable. I have stayed in a lot of public campgrounds, and have never run into this level of disrespectful campers. Screaming kids is the norm. People running their cars all night because they didn’t prepare properly. People come in and out at all hours and have no respect for other campers while setting up. Loud music late into the night.
You want to enjoy nature here…get in the backcountry.

Campgrounds have been updated somewhat. Sites seemed typical, but overall what I would expect. No issues. Personnel at the check-in / gate seem unusually aggressive in admonishing you about bears and confirming that you have "checked out." Who doesn't know about bears in the parks? And, when the checkout time comes, and your vehicle is gone, doesn't that suggest you have "checked out?"

It would have been much better if the water and wastewater systems had been upgraded / updated as well. There's really not enough capacity in the existing systems.

We enjoyed our stay at this campground. The bathrooms were close enough, running water, flushable toilets, plenty of space at our campground with fire pit, bear box, and table. There was a store very close by for supplies and food. We were right by the main road, easy access to our destinations within Yosemite high country. Will stay there again!

Great location for accessing trails throughout the meadows area without getting in your car. The campground was recently renovated, and all the campsites were equipped with new bear boxes, picnic tables, and firepits. There were really good evening programs each of the two nights I was there, and all the staff I met were welcoming and helpful.

We asked for more privacy and site to be by woods; we were so close to a large parking lot and loud group campers. The campers on other side were also close and had bright lights on talking pretty loud through the night; we decided not to camp the 2nd night that we paid for. Wood I carried back from store was $18 for 1 fire. It was about 39 degrees at night, froze, so only briefly saw Lake Tenaya and waited in a long line to get back thru to our site, so we left early the next morning.

The campground is beautiful and very well maintained and comfortable.
The rangers and staff are GREAT.

The following is TERRIBLE:
I had very limited daylight time at the campground because I spent so much daylight figuring out that Yosemite has the abhorrent policy of campground reservations available only online, and then driving around seeking wi-fi at Yosemite, and toggling between different wi-fi-enabled devices (which luckily I had with me, but should NOT be required to have, to camp at Yosemite!!) until I could make a reservation .... not arriving to the campground until after sunset, missing several other daylight opportunities on the way there, as well.

This is in addition to Yosemite's abhorrent policy requiring credit card, and not allowing cash, for entry into the park.

Shame on you, Yosemite, for discriminating against people who don't have, or who would rather not use, credit cards and wi-fi devices.
And shame on you for putting your great rangers and other staff in the position of having to help those visitors navigate this discriminatory practice, or having to tell those visitors they won't be allowed to experience the park and/or campground they potentially spent much time and money to travel to.

There is NO good-willed legitimate reason for these discriminatory no-cash and online-only policies, and if you truly think there are, then contact me asap, and I'll show you other solutions for your concerns, where cash payments and in-person reservations CAN work just fine (as they have for the previous century or so) (See my phone number left in the private comment on this form.)

HUGE hanks to your great rangers and staff (many of whom say your discriminatory policies make their jobs harder and exclude many people from visiting or camping or getting permits from Yosemite), and shame on whoever had ANY hand in instituting these policies in the first place.
