About Tuolumne Meadows Campground

Tuolumne Meadows Campground recently had a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the campsites. Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites. Thank you!Tuolumne Meadows Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an elevation of 8.6 ft. The site is situated along the scenic Tioga Road just five miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance Station. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas, and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.

Tuolumne Meadows Campground offers beautiful scenery, well-maintained facilities, and friendly staff, making it a great base for exploring Yosemite. Visitors appreciate the educational campfire talks, proximity to the river, and ranger-led programs. However, some campers noted the campground can be crowded, and bathroom facilities are limited, with a long walk to restrooms for some sites.

We stayed in C 50, which had a decent amount of space for a four-person cabin tent, and another smaller tent or two could have fit. The parking space was much larger than listed; could have easily fit two vehicles. Shares a short driveway with C 49, which was a very small site, barely room for a backpacking tent. Walk to the nearest bathroom uphill on a trail, or the next closest down the road 0.2 mi. The sites in this area are off short spur driveways with 2 - 6 sites per driveway, so some of the sites, like C-50, are a bit removed from the road. We did one long hike (9 mi) from our campsite to Lembert Dome, Dog Lake, and Soda Springs. Second hike was to Elizabeth Lake, well graded trail to a very nice lake (4.5 round trip from the trailhead, and maybe 6 mi from site C-50). We also walked over to the Tuolomne River, with rock slab swim holes (near Loop A). By the way, not obvious on the map, but there is a trail from Loop D to the visitor center.

My friends and I, all from Ireland visited Yosemite for the first time and absolutely loved camping here. Everyone was so kind and helpful and really made our trip. The campground itself is beautiful and tranquil making for the perfect peaceful trip.

So pleasant to not be surrounded by smoke like in the valley! Great to see the ranger going around inviting campers to the campfire ring for an educational talk and shared campfire. It would be great to see individual fire rings become a thing of the past and group fire rings the future!
I do wish they would tell you if the driveway was level or not. The photo made it appear level but it absolutely not. Pretty steep and hard to drive up.
Not sure why the stairs were placed where they were. They went up to nowhere and then you had to take a hard right to the site. Interesting placement.
Nicely updated gravel parking spaces!

This specific site floods significantly after the reopening of the campground. An august storm rolled into this campground while we were out hiking and we came back to this whole site (and especially the large tent area) submerged under up to 8 inches of water. We had to bail early because everything was soaked. This site needs to be re-graded or proper drainage added as it seems like the A loop drains into this site. Expect issues if rain is in your forecast at this site.

Otherwise, this site is okay. It's next to a heavily used bathroom so expect to see lots of headlamps shining your way when even when in your tent.

The staff, permanent and seasonal, were all outstanding. I was surprised though to see no staff at the campsites or cleaning the bathrooms (but they were clean). Is staffing greatly reduced? During 3 nights in the campground, I saw a ranger patrolling the campground only once.
