Absolutely amazing place to stay in Yosemite with a gushing river as the backdrop! We stayed in April for 3 nights and did one day walking the Mariposa of giant sequoias (15min ish away) and one day we drove to Yosemite lodge and did the mist trail hike (45min drive) - en route you pass the most amazing vista point of El Capitan and waterfalls etc. we originally wanted to stay at camp 4 or around the Yosemite lodge area but after visiting it for the day we were so happy we could return to peaceful wawona! No showers but who cares! Very reasonable price too and we were able to book last minute as off-season - but book in advance if possible! General store a 4 min drive away for essentials and even had phone service here.

The Wawona campground is clean and has a river passing alongside it. There are no showers and if you're wondering why it says "Don't wash your dishes here" it means that's also where they clean the bathroom mops. No hookups but generators are allowed. People respected the quiet hours and overall it was a good experience boondocking for our first time. Hike the Chilnualna Falls nearby. It's epic and you don't even need to drive into the valley.

We stayed in the A loop, closest to Wawona Road. It is less shaded than the others which was nice in April. Very peaceful with the river so close by, we never heard road noise. Wawona seems more peaceful than the campgrounds in the main valley, though you have to drive 30-45 minutes to get to the valley. Wawona has some nice waterfalls and trails, and Mariposa Grove is close by. The bathrooms were old but clean. The men’s bathroom nearest our campsite did not have lights at night, which meantn i had to walk a ways to use a bathroom with lights or wear a headlamp. I would stay here again.

Well maintained campground right by the Merced River. We had great weather on both nights we camped here, which made the experience magical.

I believe this Experience is great for someone new to Yosemite. In addition It is a nice experience camping by the South fork of the Merced river. I would recommend this Camp!

The campsite was beautiful. The bathrooms are acceptable. The wastewater situation was confusing.

We had such a great time! Right off the river, going to sleep to that sound was the best. Only a 40 min drive to Yosemite, and all the staff was friendly. Also bathroom are actually the best we’ve been to considering it’s camping. Will most definitely be back .

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Follow signs to Wawona. The campground is located 8 miles north of the South Entrance station on Highway 41, and 27 miles south of Yosemite Valley.

General
- You are responsible for reading the following information and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment.
- If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 375-9535; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
- Bear Habitat! Food and toiletries must be stored in provided food lockers. Absolutely NO food or scented items stored in vehicles. Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters.
- Potable water at the dump station (located one mile south of the campground) is only available during summer months.
- Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited

- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
