About Wawona Campground

Wawona Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is situated at the southern end of the park, 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley, at an elevation of 4000 feet.  Wawona was home to the park's headquarters in 1904 and historic structures still stand today. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just a short drive away. Within Yosemite, visitors gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area and much more. When on reservation, Wawona campsites are available to reserve up to five months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST. For example, on January 15, arrival dates for the period May 15 to June 14 become available to reserve, and therefore, the full arrival date window would be from the campground open date to June 14.   Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.  Yosemite National Park Campground Reservation Dates

Site 28 A loop wawona is on the hill side so there is some unfortunate slope. Not a huge problem because there’s 2 flat areas in the campground to pitch your tent. The bathrooms were clean. There’s quite a bit of wood around the campsite if you happen to bring a hatchet you can cut some up. If you check in after hours just sign your name on the clipboard and the ranger will be by in the morning to fully check you in. April is super cold so double up on sleeping bags but other than that it was great.

The bathroom near site 49 is astoundingly loud. We were woken up all night long every night by the sound of the water being turned on. Whenever anyone used the sink in the women’s restroom it sounded like a car crash. Otherwise, was a clean bathroom.

Only 35 mins from valley, close to store, gas station, and river. Would come and camp again. Bathrooms clean.

Staff was awesome, the campground, it’s beautiful, right on the Merced. Np partyers, no non-sense, in the middle of YNP. Even have River Otters toaming the area.

First camping trip, this was a great campsite. Tons of room, spaced out from other sites, bathroom close by without being a nuisance at all since it’s down the hill. Couldn’t ask for more. Images look super rocky on this site specifically but not an issue at all. Will be back for sure.

Excellent campground. I booked a group site and was very happy with the experience. The bathroom was cleaned. The ranger was very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again.

We stayed at site 054 C on 8/19 during a cross country roadtrip. For the purposes of our trip (coming down from the Tahoe area and visiting the valley the next day) I wish that we would have stayed up in Tolumne instead of having to backtrack into the valley the next day, but that was my own planning fault. This was a fine campground. Clean, quiet, and for such a popular campground this site felt private enough, which is rare when the bathrooms are so close by. There’s a large lovely cedar on the site which was a nice shady spot to pitch our tent under.

Been coming to Wawona for the past 40 yrs with my family as a child and now with children of my own. This place will always hold a special place in my heart. When anyone ever ask me of any places to try to camp, this place is always my first recommendation.

The hosts are nice and the space is wide and flat. About 1 hour drive from Yosemite Valley, not too bad!
