If I'm being honest, packed campgrounds in the heart of busy national parks aren't exactly my cup of tea, but as far as that kind of high-density camping experience is concerned, you can't do better than Wawona. It's stunning. The whole campground is wonderfully laid out, relatively quiet (quieter as you get away from the road), and the facilities are clean, functional, and equitably distributed throughout. Flush toilets, fresh water spigots, bear lockers at every site, and bearproof dumpsters every few dozen feet. The staff was great too. We had a wonderful time, and I would return to Wawona before any of the campgrounds in the valley in a heartbeat.

So nice! We HAVE Bern in loop C whichbhas such a great possibility to go for a swim in the Rover.
Would always prefer Wawona over the Valley campgrounds

A large relatively spacious campground. Our site was right on the river. It’s well away from the crowds of the Valley. The Big Trees are a short drive. You can access the Glacier Pt Rd pretty quickly. And if you want to spend a day I. The Valley, that’s easy. Very quiet morning and night

Primitive sites are great. Snagged one close to the river. Neighbors had way too many campers over the stated limit so that took away some of the enjoyment. But the trees and wildflowers were beautiful. Wawona and the Mariposa grove of sequoias aren’t far away at all. Worth visiting. Slightly less crowded than the valley. About a 30-45 minute drive from the main part of the valley. Well managed. Bathrooms were clean and functional. Friendly staff. Wish there was a better way to enforce the campsite person limit. But overall a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience!

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Follow signs to Wawona. The campground is located 8 miles north of the South Entrance station on Highway 41, and 27 miles south of Yosemite Valley.

General
- You are responsible for reading the following information and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment.
- If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 375-9535; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
- Bear Habitat! Food and toiletries must be stored in provided food lockers. Absolutely NO food or scented items stored in vehicles. Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters.
- Potable water at the dump station (located one mile south of the campground) is only available during summer months.
- Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited

- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
