I love any chance to stay in Yosemite. Wawona is a long drive from the Valley floor, but that allows you to have a quiet experience where you can really experience the sound of the creek rushing by and see the stars twinkling in the night sky. Close to water fall hikes and the redwoods, about an hour drive from Half Dome, Curry Village and the Mist Trail.

We had a wonderful time at Wawona! I would say that the only thing that I wish could be changed was the “One Way” streets, make it very difficult for someone with a longer camper/trailer to back into their site so that door/sitting area is not on the road. We reserved a spot on the river, but it was super challenging getting our rig backed into our spot! It’s only tough for bigger campers, not a huge deal!

The campground is set along the south fork of the Merced river, and a number of the campsites are close to the river. The sound of the roaring river in spring is very soothing. Campground is well run and clean.

Beautiful area and close to the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias. We had site 99 and it was steeply sloping to say the least. We encroached into some common area and we’re able to get a relatively flat area to pitch our 8 man tent. The Rush Creek was magnificent and was great white noise at night to let us get a great sleep. Next time, we will look for a flatter site but loved this place nevertheless.

I liked this site and the bathrooms were kept very clean. These sites were situated under trees and offered privacy. There is a slight slope and the river cannot be as easily accessed from these sites since the bank is more overgrown. Sites 50-77 along the river have better access to the river, but not all provide shade.
I only deducted one star bc the rangers allowed the next person who had reserved our site to come in at 8 am in the morning and woke us up. They came with loads of people, took our parking and were all over our campsite. We were literally observed while getting up and having breakfast. After we complained they were told to come back when we check out, but we still shouldn't be put in that situation and you can't allow someone else to start occupying your spot when you are still present and have the site paid for.

I got super lucky with the sites that I like to have. Always nice being along the river. Especially when the river is from edge to edge as it was this year. Bathrooms are clean and everyone obey the rules and just quiet and considerate.

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Follow signs to Wawona. The campground is located 8 miles north of the South Entrance station on Highway 41, and 27 miles south of Yosemite Valley.

General
- You are responsible for reading the following information and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment.
- If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 375-9535; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
- Bear Habitat! Food and toiletries must be stored in provided food lockers. Absolutely NO food or scented items stored in vehicles. Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters.
- Potable water at the dump station (located one mile south of the campground) is only available during summer months.
- Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited

- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
