Wawona Campground

Wawona campground is fantastic. The Merced River runs through the side of it which allows for tubing and swimming. There are some “beach spots” which are great for kids. Some great swimming parts of the river you’ll need to hike to get to but majority of the river is easily accessible. This campground is more dispersed than in the valley. Only Verizon carriers have signal. There is the town of Wawona that is 6 min drive away where they have a local market for groceries and wifi at the library if needed. The restrooms were decent, and rangers were very nice. We cannot wait to go back!

I thought the campsite was very good with a large shaded tree. However, what concerned me were the campers across from me in site 61 or 62 (I was in 57) who had 3 vehicles and more than 6 campers, including teenagers and small children which is against the campground rules. They also had 3 large tent and a large trailer that they carried all their equipment in as well. I think you should be more closely monitoring the sites to see that campers are following the rules. There were other campsites nearby that also had more than 6 campers. I am wondering why you don't have a supervisor who stays on site if needed. I believe they have one in the valley campgrounds. I did appreciate that the campground was quiet at night.

Wonderful! Great site, right by the river. Clean bathrooms, didn’t feel too crowded although the camp was full. It was our first camping experience and we’ll do it again.

This campground was quiet and had beautiful scenery. The river flows right through the campgrounds and you are able to access it at several points. Would stay here over the valley despite the drive, the campground was much more private. Close to Maripos Grove, the history center, and general store/gas station.

Spacious place. Good facilities. Limited privacy.

Very nice campground. It is the kind of campground you can go to and enjoy for the campground. Most of the sites are excellent. There were a few uneven sites between the campground loops, but we didn't stay in any of these.
There were a number of volunteers near us and it made the stay enjoyable.
The men's restroom was kept clean.

Wonderful picturesque campground. My site was pleasantly segregated and clean. The rangers were very friendly and helpful.

Booked this campground sight-unseen and loved it! It’s right next to the Merced River (BTW, Wawona, you need a public access route to the river so all campers, not just river-site campers, can easily access the water) and convenient to Mariposa Grove (giant sequoias). Most nights were quiet and pleasant but our last night, a large group across from us partied until about 1:00 am. Are rangers coming by at night to remind people of quiet hours? Also consider hiring a Business Analyst to write a program to allocate sites to campers for as many consecutive nights as possible. We had to move twice in 5 days! Otherwise, all was beautiful.

We stayed in Site 74 during the week of June 9th to 13th. It was lovely, even better than the photos. Right on the river, trees for shade, close to the dumpsters, & bathrooms (with flushing toilets!), took me less than 30 seconds to walk to the dumpsters, less than a minute walk to the bathrooms. Very quiet & peaceful.

We camped in our 22 foot travel trailer and had our big truck with us. We had plenty of room. Needed leveling planks on the side facing the river because it is sloped a bit. We maneuvered so that our camper door faced the river. If you can back up a trailer you can do this easily. We had family next to us in Site 72. They had a 25 foot RV, plenty of room. Directly across from us is site 73, reserved for volunteers who were very helpful and answered our questions. The staff at the entrance to the campground are very helpful too. Our other family members were in site 66. They have a small travel trailer and truck, plenty of room However, this site is very exposed, no shade and faces east. Luckily they brought their easy-up and that along with their awning made it bearable. This site is between Site 72 and the bathrooms.

The campground is within a mile or two of the market where we stopped several times for ice and basic groceries. It's also across the road from Wawona Meadow Loop Trail which is dog friendly and we hiked this trail twice, lots of shade!
