Wawona Campground

Great sites one right on the river. They were clean and good sized. Would stay again

Close to Yosemite Valley and Wawona General store. Well kept, quiet and peaceful spot to enjoy the National Park.

Beautiful camp ground!

We had a dickens of a time booking our reservation, though we were online with fingers poised to go at 10AM EST 5 months before we wanted to book a reservation. At Recreation.gov, the entire block of sites was not operational, so there was no way to make any reservation at Wawona. Because we wanted some sort of campsite at Yosemite for our dates, we opted to book in the Valley campsites. By the time we realized that Wawona was not magically going to become available for reservations, though, there were only individual dates still available in the Valley. We almost unhappily booked 3 separate spots for our intended timeframe, paying all the fees, etc, but not convinced that was really what we wanted.
The next day, the Wawona campground had opened up, and we were able to book a single site for 5 days close to where we wanted to be staying. We right away cancelled our Valley reservations, and got a partial refund. But I am miffed that our intention to make reservations at Wawona was thwarted by a NPS (or recreation.gov) snafu. We had no way on the weekend 'Reservation Day' (during the few seconds scramble in which to make a reservation) to contact NPS to find out what was wrong with their reservation system, and when would it open for Wawona. Second choice of camping ANYWHERE in Yosemite would have been just OK, but when the reservation system DID become up and running, there was no way to avoid excessive cancellation fees for an issue that was not even our fault. This was under the control of NPS, and they should have either had their system up and running with recreation.gov, or they should have been prepared to pay the cancellation fees related to shortfalls within their own system.

We loved this campsite! Pretty private and tucked back into the corner. There were two large spots for tents and would be great for a bigger group. Highly recommend!

Nice campground next to River. Camp Volunteer and his wife were very friendly and helpful during our stay. Bathrooms were very clean.

Fantastic site! Only complaint is that it’s a little slanted. Great shade, close to restrooms and trash/recycling bins, but not “too close” to become a noise or odor problem. Wawona campsite was very mellow and much less crowded than those in the valley. Excellent springboard for hiking Chilnuana Falls, and taking a dip in the river both at the campsite and at nearby Swinging Bridge trail was cold but exhilarating. River sounds were very relaxing!

Wawona is a very chill campground compared to those in the valley. It features a range of sites, including some very cool locations along the river. It is close to Mariposa Grove and the Chilnualna Falls trailhead.

Great place to stay to get an early start for the Glacier Point Road. Facilities are basic but adequate. They include flushing toilets, potable water, trash, and food storage lockers.
