About Wawona Campground

Wawona Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is situated at the southern end of the park, 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley, at an elevation of 4000 feet.  Wawona was home to the park's headquarters in 1904 and historic structures still stand today. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just a short drive away. Within Yosemite, visitors gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area and much more. When on reservation, Wawona campsites are available to reserve up to five months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST. For example, on January 15, arrival dates for the period May 15 to June 14 become available to reserve, and therefore, the full arrival date window would be from the campground open date to June 14.   Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.  Yosemite National Park Campground Reservation Dates

Campground clean and quiet.. Ranger talk was fun and everyone there was friendly. Definitely a different experience from being down in the valley. For a few years we started avoiding Yosemite because of the crowds. We'll definitely be making more trips to Yosemite now that we've discovered Wawona.

Beautiful place. Notices some spaces had to be very creative to find level ground for tents. Bring smaller coolers or bags for the bear locker to help organize more easily.

Low key campground with sites on the river and many sites with lots of trees. River access with nice swimming hole if the river is low. Convenient restrooms. No showers. Food lockers provided to protect bears. All food and toiletries must be stored in the locker including garbage. All dishes must be washed or locked away. A 40-minute drive to the valley in light traffic. Bridalveil Falls, Lower Yosemite Falls, and the Ahwahnee Hotel are required destinations. Swimming pool with a view of Upper Yosemite Falls and showers available at the Yosemite Lodge for $5.75 day use.

This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the Park. It goes under everyone's radar because the prettiest sites are not visible from the road. There are sites deep in the campground that border the river that give you that amazing wilderness feeling even though there are amenities just a mile down the road. Special mention: Fabulous swim and wade spots on the riverbank. Take time to explore and find the perfect one that suits you. A true antidote to the crowds/ hustle and bustle of the Valley!

Beautiful and clean campground. Love that they have some spots along the river.

Only drawback is that it’s about 45 minutes to drive into Yosemite Valley and there are no showers .

But would definitely go again!

Great spot to camp, with swimming right there to enjoy and cool off every day. The rangers were excellent and helpful, even had a jumper pack for when our car battery died. Thanks for keeping such a gem in the Yosemite Park.

Pretty large site with a couple options to place tent. Next to the river, although no clear walkway to make it down directly from site. A bit of a walk from the bathroom, nothing major. Close proximity to water source for washing
