Great campsite quiet with excellent hikes in the neighborhood. Very helpful and well equipped Office with a most helpful attendant. Loved it will certainly be back.

Nice views, good-sized sites, hiking available right from camp, and only 20 mins or so to the park entrance. There is an RV dump (the water faucet wasn't working) and a place to fill fresh-water tanks, which is a bonus since it is dry camping. Roads around camp are pretty rough and in need of repair but it's fine if you go slow.

Though we appreciated the warnings of the sites, possibly being somewhat unlevel, we found them more unlovable than we were expecting. Also, the sites are so close that it does not provide a lot of privacy. The roads within the park are very rough and the water at the fuel station has very low volume. We’ve stayed at many many horse service campgrounds, and State Park campgrounds and found this one to be less than preferred. It’s unlikely we will stay here again. Also, though we came in a self-contained RV we did notice that several people were washing their dishes in the plants. This was due to not having sufficient dish cleaning areas for those tent campers. Lastly, to dump your trash, was quite a distance it would be very helpful if there were garbage and recycling near the dump station. sorry one more comment. With the exception of in the visitor center, we did not see a single national Park service person the three nights we were there.

We went on a high wind day. I didn’t want to cancel the reservation I had planned it for over a month. I enjoyed the scenery, just not the weather. Left a day early couldn’t handle the high winds at night, to top it off I forgot the sleeping bags.

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
Elevation: 1231 feet
5.2 mi drive to downtown Yucca Valley (about 11 min)
