Black Rock Campground

Nice campground and our site was large. Roads are rough and no showers but we knew that so no problem. Fellow campers were a bit loud but I guess that’s what you get in a campground. Would have preferred being in the park proper and not having to drive each day to get in. All in all I would recommend.

The campground was good in that it was both close to the Joshua Trees and close to the town of Yucca Valley. However, the roads around the campground were TERRIBLE. They originally had been paved but they have not had any maintenance in more than a decade, maybe two decades. There were huge potholes and large cracks everywhere. It would be better to just tear up the pavement and put down gravel. I know that the area has huge rainstorms when they happen but how hard would it be to just put down gravel on top of the mess that they have now.
On the good side, the campground had water which only one other campground has and the bathrooms were passable. There was only one water spicket which was a bit of a walk but if you bring a large water container, you should have no problem.

The area was clean and well maintained. The trails were not too challenging. (Which suited me just fine!) The only drawbacks were no showers and the restrooms were messy.

Great spot for checking out the park! This area was filled with a ton of Joshua Trees and after seeing other campgrounds when exploring the park, this one was definitely the best one. Also a plus were the flushable toilets (but no showers unfortunately).

Incredible restrooms, one of the best I've seen camping anywhere.
Site is windy compared to other sites in the park, something to keep in mind.
Campground ranger was on top of all campers about trash maintenance which is understandable but failed to enforce quiet hours two consecutive nights even after mentioning it after the first night. Wasn't too bad just loud music until about 2am.
Overall nice place, prefer more campsites with level ground, lots of sloping sites.

Large campsite for bigger size tents. The only downside about this site is there's not much covering from the wind, so if it's going to be a windy night, you will feel it in your tent.

Restrooms were clean. Fire pit with grill and table at every site. Dumpster is easily accessible. Road is rough on sedans. It was real windy on the day we went.
