Loved how rustic this campground felt, even though it did make it a little tricky to get our RV on level ground. We saw lots of great birds right near camp — roadrunners, California scrub jays, and more. It is a bit of a drive to get to the actual park entrance, but it was an easy trek and we didn’t mind. It actually gave us some opportunity to explore the town of Joshua Tree, which we might have skipped otherwise. We visited in the days leading up to Christmas and while it was busy, it felt quite friendly and respectful.
All that said, I’d be interested in staying at one of the campgrounds inside the park next time for the sunsets and stargazing. I’d imagine those would be incredible.

West Side Loop trail was beautiful (4.7 miles) and the trailhead is right on the campground. Bathrooms were clean and staff friendly. No electric hook-ups or showers. Very peaceful.

Awesome location right next to the visitors center and walking distance to the shops and restaurants at the resort. Easy access to site and plenty of room to maneuver.

It's a great site. It's not very deep into Joshua Tree park so you have cellphone reception, and you're close to town. There's a lavatory as well. We will absolutely be coming back - and we will venture deeper into the park from here.

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
