This was my 5th time to Joshua Tree and my 2nd time staying at Black Rock. Love this camp ground, friendly staff - clean restrooms with flush toilets and I give it a 5 star rating. Local hiking trails directly from the campground and close to town my sight had great views of the trees, I even had a Joshua tree at my sight.

Just make sure to figure out where your site is before arriving or download a campground map. Signage is a bit lacking, and it’s easy to get lost among all the different loops.

10 years ago I loved coming here, the terrain has changed due to flooding and I’ve noticed there is no longer a host or Rangers that patrol. Campers that come here no longer respect nature nor campground rules. 12am has become the new “quiet hours”, not 10pm.
Nice bathrooms and I love that they’ve added dome covers to the fire pits.

Skull Rock Loop hike was very nice! Highly recommend! We did the Geology Tour Road. High clearance vehicles recmmended. Ryan Ranch hike was also very interesting!

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
Elevation: 1231 feet
5.2 mi drive to downtown Yucca Valley (about 11 min)
