We really enjoyed the location and the hiking trails. The campground was very pretty. The roads need a little bit of work, however.
The Campos was off duty at the time we arrived, but he was very helpful and said not to worry and he took my husband in the golf cart around to figure out, which was the best way to get the trailer into our site since we have a little bit of a larger trailer. I would definitely stay there again

The roads in the campground are in terrible shape. The NPS, historically underfunded, hasn't got a chance to improve things with the Administration cutting funding to anything and everything that the people like and use. Very sad, as the park is just going to deteriorate more and more.

Joshua Tree is such a special place. However the BlackRock campground is shabby. Many campsites are very unlevel or have wash outs. Most of the pavement in the campground is in terrible condition. There's also no gate or other barrier to entry so anyone could come through the campground at any time.
I hope to come back to Joshua Tree but I am not likely to return to BlackRock.

A beautiful setting. Many of the sites are not level, but manageable. The campsite access roads have not been upgraded in many years, but manageable. Clean, quite, stars and moon were amazing. Nature Centers staff (Bill) was very informative.

Campground is beautiful and I would certainly recommend and return. Roads within the campground are in dire need of resurfacing and bathrooms are due for an update. Otherwise, no complaints.

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.

If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Highway access
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
