Campsite was easy to find. Facilities were clean. Well appointed site with fire ring, grill and table. Nice visitor center close to trail heads.

It's a great site. It's not very deep into Joshua Tree park so you have cellphone reception, and you're close to town. There's a lavatory as well. We will absolutely be coming back - and we will venture deeper into the park from here.

Loved how rustic this campground felt, even though it did make it a little tricky to get our RV on level ground. We saw lots of great birds right near camp — roadrunners, California scrub jays, and more. It is a bit of a drive to get to the actual park entrance, but it was an easy trek and we didn’t mind. It actually gave us some opportunity to explore the town of Joshua Tree, which we might have skipped otherwise. We visited in the days leading up to Christmas and while it was busy, it felt quite friendly and respectful.
All that said, I’d be interested in staying at one of the campgrounds inside the park next time for the sunsets and stargazing. I’d imagine those would be incredible.

West Side Loop trail was beautiful (4.7 miles) and the trailhead is right on the campground. Bathrooms were clean and staff friendly. No electric hook-ups or showers. Very peaceful.

Black Rock revealed an entirely new side of Joshua Tree NP and I LOVE IT!! Can't wait to go back. I've been camping, hiking, and star gazing at JT for decades but this was my first trip to Black Rock. I couldn't believe how different it is - pine trees, small canyons, tons of different rock types, and great trails. Not the best for star gazing (more light pollution than anywhere I've been in the park) but I'll be going back to explore all the trails!
