The western part of Joshua Tree National Park is beautiful with many excellent trails. One could easily spend three or four days exploring the various trails close to this campground. There are several sites with plenty of space for larger RVs. While we enjoyed our stay at this campground, there is tremendous room for improvement. First, several of the sites are poorly defined. In addition, a bull dozer is needed to level some of the spots for RVs. Also, it would be nice to see the National Park Service pave the campground.
When we reserved a site approximately two months before our arrival, there was only one site available for only two days, yet when we arrived, there were several (more than half) sites that were unoccupied the entire time of our stay. Something needs to be done to discourage people from reserving sites only to not show. A possible solution is to charge a penalty for those who don't show and don't cancel their reservations. Also, full refunds should be provided up to one month before arrival; 50% refund up to two weeks before arrival.

A very nice campground. Flat, clean campsites. Quiet at all hours. Great hiking right from the campground. Good proximity to town. Beautiful dark night skies. Strong cell signal.

The campground was wonderful and easy to find. It felt like a gem just outside of civilization. My son and his friends hiked up in the hills and I felt safe being at such a well developed space. The trash services and clean restrooms made the camping experience really easy for all of us. Even our neighbors were considerate. On the final day we all got to watch the sun rise over the hills which was a magical experience.

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
