The grounds were clean and it was an enjoyable experience. At night time the car traffic tended to be quite much. I will choose a location further away from the entrance next time.

Site 7 felt private, was a little unloved but easy fix. The campground in built on the side of a hill so they have done a great job of making the site as level as possible but with rains etc it is going to be a challenge. The Nature Center is wonderful but it is not a ranger station. The sites with rangers manning them are the 2 visitor centers (which are very informative and worthwhile) both outside of the park, one in Joshua Tree the other in 29 Palms and the. entry stations of the park itself. The facilities were well cared for. Black Rock campground and Indian Cove are not located inside the National park so do increase your drive to sights in the park, hiking etc so allow extra time. But Black Rock was beautiful with Joshua Trees and great views!!

Gorgeous views, decent size sites.close enough to The park's western gate. The eastern half of the campground has recently paved roads, the western half has very broken pavement and potholes. The wooden restroom downhill from the visitor center is in bad need of maintenance.
The dump station's black tank flush water barely flows
Overall, I would rate this campground 8.5 out of 10

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Black Rock Campground is accessible via Interstate 10 and Route 62. From Interstate 10, take Route 62 into Yucca Valley, then proceed south on Joshua Lane for approximately five miles to reach the campground.
Elevation: 1231 feet
5.2 mi drive to downtown Yucca Valley (about 11 min)
