The only reason to go to the Equestrian Campground at Black Rock at Joshua Tree is for the trails. The horse camp is a big dirt lot. One water source and no corrals for the horses. There are three hitching rails in the middle. There is no shade and sometimes the park takes the best camping spots for human use. They need to really improve the amenities at this campground to attract equestrians.

Very nice camp ground with plenty of room to drive a 4 horse twelve foot living quarters trailer in. RV dump station was an added plus. There are no corrals or places to high tie. We brought portable panels. The camp does have hitching rails. There is one water spicket centrally located. Very nice trails directly out of camp. We will definitely come back next year!

Black rock horse camp is very spacious. It is easy to pull a large trailer in and out. Trails are right out of the camp. We set up our own portable pens as there are no trees to high tie to or provided corrals. Very clean and quiet. We had a great time with our horse and mule. Trails are very nice but the park map is…not so detailed for that area.

There are some mature Joshua Trees around parts of the perimeter that provide some shade. Water is available and there is a dumpster dedicated for manure and one for regular trash. There are a few hitching posts but, no corrals. We used a highline system to secure our horses. One drawback is that there are no toilets in the equestrian campground, you must hike up towards the main visitor center.
Trail access was directly off the campground. The trails we used were strictly for horses no bikes or dogs were permitted. These trails provided for near limitless adventure.
It was not our first time there and we will definitely return.
Park Service, please add at least some pit toilets.

Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.
If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.
Access to Black Rock Equestrian Campground is via Interstate 10 and Route 62. The campground can be reached by turning south on Joshua Lane from Route 62 in Yucca Valley.
