Blue Lake Campground offers a fantastic location with excellent facilities and helpful campground attendants, providing a clean and well-maintained environment. Beautiful campgrounds, good hiking, nice mountain lakes and streams. Our friend pulled a 42 foot fifth wheel up there was was a challenge. Did manage to squeeze into to spot but probably too big of a trailer to really be able to navigate the road up for most folks. It was hard enough for our 35 foot. Would most definitely recommend this campground. If you are low landers like we are, would recommend spending a few days at a lower altitude like 6,000 foot first. Several people in our group struggled with the altitude and got some altitude motion sickness. But we came from 1,300 straight to this campground. Look forward to visiting this campground again for sure!

I have camped here several times in tents and absolutely loved it. I now have a 22 ft. Travel trailer and I took it up to Blue Lake Campground and it was awesome I enjoy the quietness and the coolness of this place. I fished in Blue Lake and caught several fish and tossed them back so the kids can catch them. I will certainly return again and again.

We had a great time at this campground! The campsites are far enough apart to not feel like you're right next to other people, and the bathrooms are centrally located, so it's easy to go when you need to. It was well-maintained and clean. No one was partying too loud or causing disturbances. The campground is just a short walk through the trees and down the road from Blue Lake, where we fished and sat in the sun. It's a very picturesque area with the snow-capped mountains right behind the lake, but it was certainly warm enough to enjoy shorts and a tank top. I caught my limit in fish easily both days and fried them up over the campfire. Awesome place that I will definitely go back to.

From Colorado Highway 12 south of the Town of Cuchara, take FSR 422 4 miles west to the campground.
The campground is accessible via Colorado Highway 12, which is approximately 4 miles from FSR 422.
Elevation: 3201 feet
122 mi drive to downtown Canon City (about 2 hr 19 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- Due to a high wind storm back in 2022, many trees here were blown down. In the Spring of 2024 the USFS clear cut the area. Today Blue Lake Campground has no trees, but the grass is starting to comeback along with the flowers.Also note that because there are no trees in this campground it can be "very windy" at times. Please be prepared for this when you camp here.
- This Campground has a limit of 10 people; either 2 tents and 2 vehicles OR 1 RV in each campsite.
- Caution: bears frequent the area. Be aware; keep a clean camp; Forest Service regulations require food and cooking utensils be stored in secure containers or locked in vehicles
- First-come, first-served sites are available.
- No horse sites are available
- Due to the remoteness of the campground, real time information is not available, contact the San Carlos Ranger District office for further information at (719) 269-8500.
