What Guests Are Saying

Hovenweep Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting with excellent facilities, including clean restrooms and unique sunshade structures. Visitors enjoy fantastic stargazing and hiking trails that lead directly to ancient ruins. However, some campers experienced disturbances from loud generators and suggested enforcing quiet hours, along with a need for additional restroom facilities.

Totally awesome spot! The dark sky stars are fantastic! loved the sun shade structures, as have never seen anything like that at a state or national park. Facilities are very well maintained. Though it is a truck and in the middle of nowhere, it is worth it as a totally impressive site of the ancient pueblo people.

We had multiple sites reserved for a reunion of friends... the folks in this site packed up and left without even spending the night due to LOUD GENERATORS.

Hovenweep has been "discovered" and is now frequented by big rigs with generators. The generator noise ruined our experience in camp both mornings and evenings. Why can't NPS impose generator hours such as 12noon to 4pm like Utah state parks such as Kodachrome? We go camping for some peace and quiet, but you won't find it here.

Nice basic, well kept. This is a place that could do without generators. It is so quiet that when a motor runs it impacts the whole camp. We do appreciate the limited hours of their use.

Great little campground with excellent hiking trails right into the ruins. Beautiful views of Sleeping Ute Mountain and a very nice visitor center made for a great stay. I'd avoid the hot summer months out there but any other time including winter would be great.

The campsite and location are fantastic. The setting is beautiful, the sky is so dark, restrooms were very clean, and there is hiking right from the campground. This is my third time staying here, and I always look forward to coming here.

Some issues: be careful about the site you pick as some won't handle an RV and are not level enough for an RV. In addition, there were three unattended dogs on the Holly Ruins trail. I'm not sure if they were owned by someone or it they were wild/feral, but they acted in an aggressive manner and I had to turn around on the hike because of that.

Loud generators ruined the natural quietude mornings and evenings. How about generator hours like the state parks... 12 noon to 4pm only, so our mornings and evenings in camp aren't ruined?? We were in site 13... very difficult to level... have lots of nlocks if you want to level there.

The stay was perfect. The campground needs another bathroom though. There's only one hole each for men and women....
