enjoyed the atv trails around Bonanza and Flagstaff. Do miss the beavers in the ponds but i guess they were killing the trees in the neighborhood.
The remodel of the cabin is great.
Will be using again this summer if we can.

From Saguache, go north on Hwy 285 for 15 miles to Villa Grove. Take the Bonanza turnoff, County Rd LL56, on the left 0.1 mile north of Villa Grove. Stay on LL56 about 13 miles west to the "Brewery Creek " sign and make a left turn, crossing a bridge. Travel on Forest Road #880 for 1.5 miles. There are 2 boundary gates before the cabin gate, one is for private property next to the Bonanza Ranch, and the second gate is the Bureau of Land Management / Forest boundary. The cabin gate is to the right of the road beyond the second gate.
Winter access may be limited to showshoes, skis or snowmobile. During the spring snow melt, March through mid May, hiking 1.5 miles may be the only option for accessing the cabin. Seasonal road closures may also be in effect, check conditions prior to your arrival.
The Brewery Creek Guard Station is accessible via US Highway 285, which is approximately 15 miles east of the location.

Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Contact the Saguache Ranger District before arrival for any restrictions or conditions.
- Use the combination lock for cabin entry as provided in your confirmation.
Safety & rules
- The maximum stay is 14 days; a Forest Employee may check the cabin during your stay.
- Keep at least two windows cracked open at all times to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Cabins may be used for administrative purposes.
- Firearms and skeet shooting are prohibited within 150 yards of the cabin.
- Clean the guard station and lock the gate before leaving.
- Pack out all garbage and food; do not burn trash in the fire pit.
- Stay hydrated before and during your stay to prevent altitude sickness.
- Expect thunderstorms in summer and cold temperatures in spring/fall; access may require snow equipment later in the season.
Pets
- Pets are allowed but must be controlled and not on furniture.
Site types & loops
- Livestock, including horses and llamas, are not allowed.
- Smoking is not allowed at the guard station.
Utilities
- Water is available at the guard station by hand pump and at the Ranger District office during business hours from Memorial Day to November.
Amenities
- The Guard Station has no electricity or cell phone service.
Wildlife & food storage
- Food and trash must not be left outside due to wildlife.
