Nice hike, short day use without paddle board. Can see through water at grass bloom.

Beautiful paddle! From the swimming area to the bridge is about 1.25 miles (2.5 mile round trip). Took a little longer to get back having to paddle against the current.

Alexander Springs – Crystal-Clear Water and Classic Florida Springs Beauty
Alexander Springs is one of those places that instantly reminds you why Florida’s springs are so special. Located within the Ocala National Forest, this spring feels open, welcoming, and refreshingly natural, with clear blue water framed by sandy shores and shaded forest edges. The spring run flows gently outward, creating beautiful reflections and constantly changing light that make the area especially appealing for photography.
The water here is remarkably clear, making it easy to see fish and underwater movement even from the shore. It’s an ideal spot for swimming, wading, or simply sitting near the water and watching the day unfold. The gradual entry into the spring makes it accessible and comfortable, whether you’re getting in the water or just cooling your feet along the edge.
The surrounding forest adds to the experience. Tall trees, filtered sunlight, and the sounds of birds create a peaceful atmosphere that feels far removed from Florida’s busier destinations. Wildlife sightings are common and feel natural rather than staged, adding to the sense that this is a living, breathing ecosystem.
Facilities are well maintained, with restrooms, picnic areas, and clear signage that help protect the spring while still allowing visitors to enjoy it fully. Dogs are welcome in designated areas, making it a good stop for travelers exploring the forest with a leashed pup, though pets are not allowed in the swimming area itself.
Travel tips: arrive early, especially on warm days and weekends; bring water shoes for comfort; pack bug spray; and plan extra time—you’ll likely want to stay longer than expected. Morning and late afternoon offer the best light and a quieter experience.
Alexander Springs captures the essence of Florida’s spring country: clear water, quiet forest surroundings, and an unhurried pace that encourages you to slow down and really take it all in. It’s a standout stop within Ocala National Forest and an easy recommendation for anyone exploring central Florida’s natural side.

Great spot if you want to camp and enjoy a refreshing spring all in one place! Check-in was easy, the bathrooms were clean and well-maintained, and the spring area and trails were peaceful and relaxing. Just a heads-up: there’s no electricity at the campsites, but there are drinking water faucets throughout the campground.
