What Guests Are Saying
Camel Lake Campground is a peaceful and beautiful destination, ideal for relaxation and nature lovers, with spacious and well-maintained campsites. Visitors appreciate the friendly camp host and the scenic trails around the lake, making it a great spot for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. While the dirt road leading in can be bumpy and the bathrooms may require some upkeep, the overall experience is cherished by many, who value its secluded charm and tranquility.

Beautiful rural campground with some electric/water sites and primitive sites. The current camp hosts in October 2021 are not maintaining sites well and they are full of fire ant mounds! Was also here in April 2021 and camp sites were in great shape, but lake was closed to swimming. It is ridiculous the lake is still "closed" to swimming due to alligators. They really need wildlife officials or locals to remove the "problem" gators so people can fully enjoy this lovely lake. It's normal for lakes in FL to have gators. If gators are a problem they need to fix the problem! Don't count on cell phone coverage at Camel Lake and enjoy being unconnected to your phone.

Camp host….. Bill Powers was excellent. Bill went out of his way to make our stay fantastic. He offered information on hiking trails. He greeted us immediately upon arriving in camp… personally took us to our campsite… offered to help in anyway possible. His demeanor was excellent……often stopping by to chat with myself and all other campers. When not supporting camp patrons Bill was busy with campground upkeep. The forest was flooded from hurricane Ida…. So we were limited in accessing everything…. Bill made our stay memorable.

We reserved three nights here, but we only stayed one night. At about one o'clock in the morning, I saw flashlights moving very close to our tent. Then I saw the camp host riding around on the golf cart with the lights on. In the morning, the camp hosts came by and explained what was going on. Turns out that people like to have parties in the woods nearby. Then they come into the campground to use the bathroom or shower. They park on the road and cut through on trails by the campsites. If I was camping by myself, I wouldn't have liked that, but I would have dealt with it. But I was camping with a child, and I didn't feel it was safe. So we left.
Other than that, it's a pretty nice campground. Note that the website says there is water, but our site did not have a spigot. There was a spigot at the site next door, though. The bathroom and shower were very clean and nice to use. The camp hosts were very a very nice Christian couple. The lake is awesome.

We had a wonderful visit at Camel Lake Campground in Apalachicola NF. It's a beautiful campground with a really pretty lake and swimming area. My husband fished in his kayak twice and didn't see any evidence of anything but catfish and mudfish. That was disappointing.
The camp host (I believe her name is Wendy) was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. She kept the bathrooms spotless! We'd definitely go back but next time, we'll go when it's cooler!

Me and my family camped out for the whole weekend and let me tell you the best! The bathroom was fully stocked and clean. The sites were nice and clean, the host was absolutely amazing Wendi she is part of family I consider she is just that kind of person with great hospitality. As soon as I pulled into the camp grounds I pulled up to the host station and she greeted me with a warm smile, I told her I was looking for site 10 that this was our first camping trip as a family so she made it extra special offered my family fry fire wood for our hotdogs and s’mores and she gave us a tarp to keep our tents from getting damaged then here came a huge rain storm and flooded our tents because the camp site set low so all the water ran down into our tents she then offered the dryer for use so we could dry our bedding and continue our camping adventure. We fed her dinner like part of the family she is a great host and can’t wait for other adventures there, we have visited Camel lake numerous times and past hostess and they stayed in their rv never came out unless they were talking at you for being past the rope swimming since the water was so low in the beach area to be able to swim . We was on tubes and got yelled at by some old couple the was the host then this is where my family come to have birthday celebrations and now camping for sure, Wendi is awesome and my family loves her

What a great off the beaten path and deep into the forest. We had site #1 with water and electric which also offered us a great view of the lake/pond and evening sunsets. The bathroom/shower is very close and well maintained yet dated. This is a small loop of campsites with only 5 having electric connection. The camping area is about 2 mi down a rough gravel road. There is a camp host on site if needed. There is no cell coverage to speak of and no OTA TV. Closest town is Bristol with limited services. We travel over to Apalachicola, FL and took a trip over to St George's Island to view the lighthouse. We will definitely camp here again.

Camel Lake is beautiful. The biggest downfall besides not having great cell service was the yellow flies. They were really bad around Memorial Day weekend. The shower is interesting as you have to keep pushing the button to turn it on and shower. The sites are nice and have a grill as well as fire ring. The lake is nice as was the trail we walked around it.
