What Guests Are Saying
Camel Lake Campground is a peaceful and beautiful destination, ideal for relaxation and nature lovers, with spacious and well-maintained campsites. Visitors appreciate the friendly camp host and the scenic trails around the lake, making it a great spot for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. While the dirt road leading in can be bumpy and the bathrooms may require some upkeep, the overall experience is cherished by many, who value its secluded charm and tranquility.

The area is beautiful and peaceful. The only light is from the bathroom which is nice to see the stars at night There is a nice trail around Camel Lake. Our only complaints would be that the bathrooms aren't very clean and trash in the bathrooms isn't emptied very often. Someone was taking their dogs in the bathrooms as there was a ton of hair in the men's bathroom. I watched a woman take a dog in the women's bathroom and shower. My husband took our broom and swept it best he could after two days. The other complaint is that the host lets his dog run off leash. It ran up to us two different times when we had our dog outside. I ran back to our rig the first time, to access to death and the other time I just scooped up my dog. The dog seems friendly enough but our dog can get snappy when around a rambunctious dog.

Arrived at the campground to find someone on our assigned site. Tried calling the campground number, but it was after hours. Called Recreation.gov, agent expected me to tell the person on the site that it was reserved for us and they would need to move. This is NOT something that should be done by me, rather by a park employee or camp host. We ended up taking a chance and setting up on another camp site that was reserved for the night we were staying. Fortunately no one showed up for that site that evening. Very upset with the advice of the recreation.gov agent's suggestion.

I almost don’t want to tell anyone how good this place is. It’s rustic but it’s so quiet, so gorgeous. The glory of the panhandle pine ecosystem is fully demonstrated here. Sunsets are out of this world. Trails galore straight out of the site . The road is rough coming in but it’s only 2 mi. Cell coverage is horrible but honestly you’re too busy enjoying the woods to really care. Showers are hot and private. Bathroom always clean. The dump site is kinda far at Wright lake but the bathrooms are so close to every site it doesn’t matter. We’ve been here a ton of times. Hosts are always different people each time but really nice and helpful.

Very nice campground for nature lovers. Large sites. Nice lake with walking trail around it. Very quiet and secluded. Host keeps the sites and bathrooms very well maintained. We will be coming back.

Quiet wooded area with nice lake view. Trail around lake for nice walk. Be aware of 2 mi gravel/dirt road to park.

Very nice campground. Kept tidy. Restrooms and showers were decent. Someone complained while we were there about them saying they were messy (a little forest debris 🙄). Not easy to keep them perfect when you are in a forest environment and there are backpackers sneaking in to use them. They were just fine.
The camp host checked on us and told us to not hesitate to let him if we needed him. Very nice man. His dog, Ruby, was also very welcoming 😃
The only thing is the two mile dirt road into the campground. Some potholes need attention, but that was the only thing we would like to improve. There is a nice hiking trail around the lake. We enjoyed a very peaceful two weeks there.

Our stay at Camel Lake Campground was great. There are only 10 sites, so it was very intimate. The lake was beautiful, the site was a pull-thru and roomy.
