Salt Springs Recreation Area

This park is very friendly, and also very clean. Full hook ups and asphalt site a plus! To snorkel the salt Springs is a real experience. Gated entry gives a sense of safety. One of our favorites

Everything was good until our last 2 days when we had a knock on our door and they explained that we needed to boil water for everything. Well, that was too late because we could not fill up our fresh water tanks with water because it was all contaminated water at the park. So we decided to leave early because the water was not acceptable and we asked for a refund on the last day of our 10 day stay, and they refused. Just plain bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We checked in on a Monday and were told that there was going to be work done on the water system in the campground on Wednesday morning and to disconnect our water hose before 8am. The work supposedly would take a couple of hours and that we would be notified when we could hook up again. As it turns out, this was a county wide situation that had been planned at least 3 weeks in advance and a boil water notification was in effect until further notice. In other words, we lost water service Wednesday morning and never got it back before departing on Thursday. Campers were cutting their stays short rather than take a chance of contaminating their water systems inside their campers. There was no notification of the prolonged outage from the campground. The information about the true nature of the issue was gained from contacting the county directly. All campers holding reservations for this time frame should have been notified ahead of time to allow for other plans to be made.
The campsites are nice although I'm not sure a doubling of the nightly rates to $65 per night in the last 3 years is warranted and it's crazy that golf carts are NOT allowed, except for camp hosts and park employees.
The spring itself and the recreation area surrounding it is nice.

The camp ground is very well maintained. The paved roads and open campsites give it an RV resort feel, and the full hookups are a plus. If you’re more into a true natural camping experience, this is not the place to find it. The road noise and daily noise from the leaf blowers are further reminders of a suburban neighborhood. If you enjoy RV resorts, it’s perfect. We checked out a day early because it just wasn’t our idea of camping.

Very clean restrooms and showers. Reservation Sites level. Some first come sites gravel but decent. The walk to the springs is pleasant and springs themselves entertaining when the mullet and blue crabs appear. . Manatees seen

This feels like two campgrounds in one. You should just tell everyone on the RV side that's it's 55 and over because everyone there, including the hosts and staff, act like it's a retirement community. I didn't spend much time over in the primitive area but, if I had to make assumptions, it seems more of the party crowd.

It's a tough park to manage. The hosts and staff are on power trips, and wear fake smiles. I would assume they have to because of the party crowd. Or, maybe it's from customers complaining about their neighbor. Either way, if you stay at the RV side and don't fit in, I feel like you are harshly judged, and the hosts/staff give you a hard time.

The spring was amazing to snorkel in, however. We saw blue crab, jack crevalle, Striped Mullet, Sailfin catfish, and bluegill. This was the highlight of the trip. If it weren't for this, I would give it one star.

Overall the camping was not a pleasant experience for us. This campground, the customers, the hosts, and the staff, need more of the "love your neighbor, as yourself" attitude.

Camp sites were well equipped with picnic table, fire ring with grill grate, bbq grill, and bear proof box for storage. Restroom facilities were very clean with clean showers and a room to wash dishes. Huge picnic area for day trips to swim in the spring. Lots of trails nearby for hiking in the Ocala National Forest.
