Since I've been blocked and my reviews have been taken down on Facebook, I wanted to share here so others can be warned.
We stayed at the Sun Retreats Homosassa River for about six weeks, and unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing.
During our stay, the water went out twice, and it wasn't just a brief interruption. We were placed under a boil water notice, making it difficult to do basic things like shower, brush our teeth, cook, and maintain normal routines. We had three adults and three children staying with us, including two autistic children who rely heavily on consistency. Our camper doesn't have a shower, so we specifically depend on the campground's bathhouses. Losing water and being unable to use those amenities was a major inconvenience.
We also experienced repeated internet outages, a STRONG sewer smell throughout the campground at various times, roads flooded with backed-up water that smelled terrible, and shower facilities that frequently had clumps of hair left behind. None of these conditions reflected the quality we expected.
The pool is advertised as being open from dawn to dusk, yet on multiple evenings it was closed around 7:30 p.m., despite it not getting dark until nearly 9:00 p.m. Our kids were disappointed because they expected to be able to swim during the posted hours.
To add the cherry on top, staff approached us about our dog, claiming she had been left unattended. That was simply not true. There were three adults at our campsite. I was at the pool with my children while another adult remained at the camper. Our dog had been kept the exact same way for the entire six weeks of our stay—securely tied, with fresh water and shade—and it had never been an issue before. When I was trying to explain to the staff member that our dog was not left unattended she simply ignored what I was saying and started to argue with me.
What disappointed us the most wasn't just the maintenance issues—it was how management handled them. Rather than acknowledging our concerns and working toward a reasonable solution, management chose to argue nearly every point we raised. Initially, they denied a refund for the two unused nights after we left early. It wasn't until I stated that I would be escalating the matter to corporate, disputing the charges with my bank, and sharing my experience publicly that they agreed to refund those unused nights. However, they still refused to offer any compensation for the repeated water outages, the boil water notice, or the other issues we dealt with throughout our six-week stay.
Being told that guests "don't pay for water or Wi-Fi" because those services are "complimentary" was frustrating. Those amenities are advertised as part of the campground experience and are included in the price of staying there. Running water is a basic necessity, not a luxury.
We went there expecting a clean, well-maintained, family-friendly campground. Instead, we left feeling frustrated, unheard, and extremely disappointed with both the conditions and the customer service.
If you're looking for a campground in the area, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

We love it here and come often. We have a van and don’t want to always unhook but here we can ride our bikes to Macraes and the freezer. Amanda who works here is amazing and remembered us and our friends and even where we are from.

Loved our stay at Sun Retreats Homosassa !! AN ABSOLUTE HIDDEN GEM!!! Such a chill spot right on the river with great views and tons of wildlife. Everything was clean, the vibe was super relaxed, and the staff was really nice. Perfect place to unplug, enjoy the water, and just slow down. We’ll definitely be back.

My wife and I camped here in our small travel trailer from January 19-22, 2026. I booked my campsite via phone call directly to the resort office about 6 weeks prior to arrival. A few days prior to arriving, they sent me an email letting me know that their office would be closed on the day of our arrival (MLK Holiday), but that they would leave our check-in package in the clubhouse, which remains open during most of the day. We arrived, found the clubhouse, retrieved our check-in package, and actually set up camp about 90 minutes before the official check-in time. Our assigned "Cozy-sized" site number 9, was a good fit for us. Not too big, and it had trees on the back side of it to give us a little privacy. It was a short walk (75 yards) to the restroom/shower facility, and about 150 yard walk to the clubhouse. The campsite was crushed limestone gravel, and a bit unlevel, but I used my leveling chock under one of my camper wheel to straight it up when we backed in. The site had metered electric, a fresh water spigot, a sewer dump, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Though the weather was perfect for a fire, we couldn't light one because the county was under a total burn ban due to drought conditions (normal in this area during the dry winter months). The day after we checked in, we went to the office to pay the remainder of our balance. I was charged $70.00 per night, but they tacked on a $15.00 "Resort Fee", which I thought was kind a joke (extra company grift) because the only real amenity "resort" amenities here besides the club house (that we didn't use) is a swimming pool, and since it was very cold the 4 days we were there (and we're warm-blooded Floridians), we sure as heck didn't go for a dip. It appeared that this facilitied began as a mobile home park, and after it was bought out by Sun Resorts, they improved it somewhat and fixed up the roads and facilities with new buildings and the pool. Most of the transient residents were seasonal snowbirds (regulars from Minnesota and Wisconsin), but there were about 40 permanent mobile homes residents inside the compound as well. Overall it's a clean park, and conveniently located just a mile from Old Town Homasassa, and a mile from the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, and 10 mi south of the city of Crystal River. The restrooms/shower houses were modern and kept very clean, but the water pressure was a bit on the low side. Additionally, the men's room only had one sit-down toilet, so two mornings I had to wait in line to use it for my "downloads". One morning, I had to walk over to use the single restroom in the clubhouse. They have free WiFi and the signal strength is good.
