Dead River Landing

Should charge for the campsites to prevent abuse of some people booking the sites just to stop others from camping there, can try to get a spot and they're booked out but nobody is staying there. Fwc needs to look into the matter.
I've heard of a few people doing this from their own mouth 😡
Other than that it's a great place been going there as long as I can remember many memories, long before it became the park it is now.

Was a wonderful place to camp for FREE after registering on their website! Great little set up with the fire pit and bbq! We tented here for a couple day retreat from the real world and it was beautiful.

Nice swampy river with bald cypress and tons of wildlife. Very primitive camping so I wouldn't recommend solo campers.

My first night there, there were campsites set up that looked like people actually lived there. A couple in a site next to me got into a huge fight while I was setting up. One of them shot off a gun, then they packed up and moved up to the RV section. A ton of people coming through there throughout the day into late in the evening. Felt like I was being watched often. Never had any patrol through there by any police or anyone official whatsoever. I almost packed up several times as I feared something might happen to me. Very sketchy activity going on there! Then I had a random guy show up, no badge or anything to prove who he was, come up and talk to me, telling me his friend owned the place, and started asking me questions. He was nice enough, but I was already nervous when he showed up. Before he left he told me the people all around me are homeless, and they stay there way past their grace of 12 days. Made me even more uncomfortable knowing they had guns and that I was there alone without any signal, deep in the woods. Very uncomfortable experience! You need to patrol this area more. I was there for 4 days and 3 nights and never saw a single official come through there. Not one. I was ready to get home this morning! I wanted to leave earlier, but decided I wasn’t going to let them run me out. NOT recommended for solo female campers. I got zero peace. And stayed strapped! (Protection). Never left my campsite in fear it would get picked through. Stayed nervous the entire stay. Otherwise, BEAUTIFUL area! Just need to clean out the trash cans more frequently, the toilets more than once a week, and enforce the 12 day stay. Make it feel safe for women campers. Some serious drug heads there!

It is a secluded yet inviting camp ground with boat dock and awesome play ground for children between 5-10 but make sure you dont get to close to the water; gators are know to appear in the swampy areas and don't explore under the pinic tables especially at night because there is most likely a black widow or two but all in all its great place to boondock. As long as you have common knowledge and enjoy nature this is a awesome place!
