About Thompson Creek Park Shelter (GA)

Thompson Creek Park lies approximately 30 mi north of Buford Dam on Lake Sidney Lanier. The site features beautiful views of the lake as well as excellent access to swimming, picnicking and boating. The lake, name of the poet, Sidney Lanier, is well known for its aqua-blue colored water, spectacular scenery and variety of recreational activities. Each year, approximately 11.8 million people come to visit.

One of our favorite venues for outdoor get together/picnic for medium gathering of around 30 to 60 people. Relatively private as only one shelter in the vicinity. Restrooms and parking nearby, ample space for kids' activities/games/sports. Beautiful view of the lake just behind the shelter. Walmart and publix are only 4 minutes away, which is very convenient if you forget to pack anything necessary for the party.

General

  • This location is available for advanced reservations only through Recreation.gov.
  • Shelter reservations cannot be made in person at the park.
  • Day-Use park fees are not included in shelter reservations and apply to all visitors.
  •  Alcohol and fireworks are prohibited. 
  • Directional signs placed along park roadways are prohibited. 
  • Amplified live music and P.A. systems are prohibited.
  • Arrive early as parking is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Shelters are first-come, first-served on the following Federal holiday weekends: Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
