Very nice Corps of Engineers campground on Hartwell Lake. Most sites are waterfont, and some are right on the water! For example, we stayed in site 38 and I could fish from the picnic table. Site 38 was very level and shady. However, the campground is still recovering from a blight that struck a large number of trees, requiring them to be removed…many stumps left. Good cellular signal with ATT and plenty of digital TV channels available. Several playgrounds for the kids and a sandy swimming beach.

Campers before me left some acid out for ants big piles of it.This stuff was harmful to pets so i went to gate attendant to see if we could get cleaned up. Was told had no one to clean but attendant brought down a shovel and rake and give to me and he sit on golf cart while i got it up.I didn't like this very much should not have been my problem.

It's a very nice campground, but had an experience that really turned me off. We went exploring day 3 of 4 when we still had a night left. We left a chair with our firewood underneath to indicate the lot wasnt vacant. This park doesnt put any indication of exit dates on site posts like other USACE parks. When we returned the maintenance people had taken our lawn chair & told the campers next door they could have our firewood.
Be aware they lock the gate from 10 pm to 7 am with no code either so you are locked in.
I've never experienced problems in a USACE park, but wont return to this one. Please put dial lock on the gate & double check the person hasn't reserved additional nights before you take their property. I had even got a new visor tag. Put dates on the post. Thanks

The campground host was extremely helpful in finding us an alternate site with shade. Facilities were clean and well-kept. The two sites we had (moved to get an additional night) were spacious with lovely lake views. Enjoyed canoeing, swimming at the beach, biking in the campground. Will definitely come back.
