Cumberland island was absolutely beautiful. We did go in early September so it rained in the afternoons so I would definitely come prepared for that. The bugs were everywhere as I had read so we made sure to layer up on bug spray regularly. The views and wildlife were amazing and Brickhill bluff really gave us the sense of isolation and wilderness we were hoping for. I would give a fair warning that if you go from the camping check in, down to Dungeness and then to Plum Orchard before making your way to your campsite at Brickhill bluff the journey turns into a 15 mi hike. But I would recommend going to both of these as the history of the island adds so much to the overall experience.
I hope to go again soon!

Great views and easy hiking. Campsites were large and where we stayed included large bear boxes to store food. Beaches were amazing. The historic sites were really neat and easy to navigate. Plan on a lot of walking, or take the tour buses. We went in March and the weather was great.

This place was incredible. My advice would be to definitely bring bikes. The grounds are enormous. 10/10 experience.

Certainly not for everyone not accustomed to camping -especially in August.
But it's one the greatest places to camp on earth -just incredible.

Cumberland Island is a great place to camp and my boyfriend and I loved it, despite the great humidity and insects (this is all due to camping in July). Our favorite thing to do was hang out on the beach, which is untouched and always empty. Hiking is also really nice with all the feral horses around. Tips if you are camping:
-This should be a no-brainer but watch your food and lock it up in the provided bear box! The first night, we had a raccoon steal an entire loaf of bread off of our picnic table when we were literally standing there. The wildlife is bold and unafraid of humans.
- If you are camping at Sea Camp, make sure that you bring a wagon with BIG WHEELS. The terrain is rough and you need power.
Also:
While you are on the island, the ferry stays docked for a few hours and you can make purchases on the ferry, like snacks, ice, and firewood. We walked up to the ferry to buy firewood one of the days, and it happened to be a rainy day. Note that for whatever reason, the guys who run the ferry lack common sense and they left their inventory of firewood outside and uncovered, so all of the wood was wet (and they didn't care). We bought it anyway because we really needed it, but it took us a LONG TIME to get any fires started (duh). These guys selling the wood should do better! Wet wood is useless.
