Haleakalā National Park offers a breathtaking and magical experience, especially for those who stay in the cabins. Many visitors praised the stunning night skies, unique landscapes, and well-maintained trails, making the backpacking journey memorable. However, some cabins, particularly Paliku and Holua, showed signs of wear and lacked essential supplies like toilet paper and wood, which detracted from the experience for some guests. Overall, the park's natural beauty and tranquility make it a worthwhile destination for adventure seekers.

Bring back the pots, pans, utensils, make it 4 logs a night for summer and fall, 5 logs a night for winter, spring. Guarantee there will be wood, propane, and tp. If there is a problem doing this, charge more money per night. If the pots and pans is a Covid requirement, require being vaccinated to secure a permit.

This was my first experience using the cabin reservation system and I managed to get Kapalaoa Cabin on the dates I wanted on the first try. I suspect mid-week was easier than a weekend. Will try again in a month or two.

The Kapalaoa cabin was spacious and a beautiful location. However, the compressed logs provided in the lockers did not burn. We tried for over an hour to get the logs to catch fire, but was never able to, which was rather disappointing. We followed all the instructions given exactly. We told the rangers about it after our trip.

The cabins are very popular and are usually reserved 6 months in advance. Look for cancellations which are pretty common.

Locker in cabin for fire wood is obscene and out of character for the site

The crater was amazing as it always is. I was a little disappointed about the limited cabin logs - seems ridiculous that as responsible users of the cabin we are limited to 3 logs per night, and for paying $75 for one night that we can't have more than 3 logs to heat the space. We got cold. And for $75 I would have though a few more logs would be in order.
I also thought the ranger who signed us in had a bit of a superiority complex and a little attitude. Very funny considering with all his "experience" he'd only just figured out how to chop the pressed fiber logs in the cabins...
