What Guests Are Saying
Thompson Flat is praised as a great and quiet camping spot, ideal for family gatherings. However, there were issues with reservation management, leading to campers being unable to access their reserved sites, and noise from day users in group areas. Improvements such as better signage for group sites and more gravel around fire rings could enhance the experience during rainy weather.

Love, love , loved this campground! Beautiful, peaceful, with large space between campsites. Beautiful Cleveland lake right up the road too.

A map or a list of camp sites in each loop would be helpful. A/B/C didn't help, especially when this information wasn't on our reservation. We stayed in #19 (loop C). The driveway is a true double, but is on a slant. Our 22 foot trailer was able to get up off the slant but our truck was on it. Any trailer much bigger might have a hard time with getting it level and off the slant. There is a decent amount of shade. There is a LOT of traffic and people who don't drive slow on the dirt road, causing a lot of dust to be kicked up and blown towards your camp. As mentioned, no camp host. This place is two miles away from Lake Cleveland, which is really pretty and good for kayaking. When you are going down the road for lake Cleveland, it is only enough for one vehicle. There are occasional turn offs, but only a couple. On AT&T we had cell service. Overall a decent spot and campground. Just be prepared for a lot of dust.

Camping at Thompson's Flats is a great experience after you chase other campers out of your reserved camp sites. Every time we have a family reunion in Loop A we show up to set up camp and there are other campers already in our spots and we have to tell them to leave. There is no camp host, ranger, or after hours phone number to call to get to help. How the sites are marked reserved are a joke and something different needs to be done so there is no confusion or misunderstanding.

The only issue we had was that the reserved sign was not put out and people were trying to take our spot. We called in and was told no one could do it because of being understaffed. But yet a Forest Service person was there 5 different times, once within a couple of hours after we were told no one could come. Things were well kept, bathrooms were fairly cleaned and maintained. We will stay there again.
