We LOVED this site and campground. The host was friendly and kept the bathrooms / sites very clean and well-maintained. Our spot had a good mix of sun and shade so it was perfect for our trip.

We had a great trip. The outhouse was clean and smelled nice. The campsites were clean and well maintained. The only negative thing that happened was a group from a neighboring campground decided to take their boat out after dark and were very loud. This group kept going until after 1:30PM. They used foul language and were drinking. We did not get very much sleep that night. Even still, we enjoyed the campout. We swam, hiked, ate great food and fished. It was a very relaxing trip.

Recreation.gov does a terrible job managing the sites at the Hower's, Riverside and Barney's campgrounds near Deadwood Reservoir. Numerous, and I mean almost all, sites with reserved placards went unoccupied. The mismanagement of these "Fee" sites is costing the forest service revenue and inciting people to create new diverse camp sites. The camp host, Gary Sturm, did his best to make unfilled sites available later in the afternoon. Garret, the area ranger, was very nice and polite policing the campgrounds. We interacted with him on 2 occasions and he was the example of professional.
The facilities at the camp sites are adequate.

Nice campsite and the forest service ranger was very helpful on information about which roads to avoid. Spent a week here and it was a wonderful getaway. Partly shaded for the RV but enough sunlit patches to have the solar panels keep the batteries fully charged. Plenty of trees to hand the hammocks. Would definitely stay here again.
