Spent a night here with my family. We had young kids (6,4,2). Kids enjoyed exploring the woods and nearby meadow.
The cabin was nice and again my kids enjoyed staying in it. The outdoor fire pit area and picnic table were nice to have for our dinner.
The mosquitos were horrible. Kids had a hard time with them. I just soaked myself in deet and didn’t have a problem. 😂
The drive from the Utah side was pretty rough. Going out, we went out St. Charles canyon. It was much, much smoother.

We love staying at Egan Basin Cabin! I recommend 4 wheel drive to get up there because the roads are pretty bumpy. The cabin is set far away from everything and everyone, which is awesome! The cabin is cozy and well maintained. It got really cold at night and we had to get out of bed several times to add more wood to the fire. There’s plenty of area around the cabin to go out and explore. It’s a beautiful place!

Lovely little cabin in a great location for hiking or skiing. Only worry is the road driving in if it's super muddy. Will definitely stay again.

Egan Basin Guard Station is located 31 miles southwest of Montpelier, Idaho. Follow Highway 89 south 17 miles to St. Charles. Turn west on 200 North. Continue west 1.5 miles to Forest Road 411 (Green Canyon) and follow 411 west/southwest to Forest Road 415. At this intersection, follow the signs west 5 miles to the guard station sign, turn south for 1/4 mile to the guard station. Maps are available upon request at the district office.
Egan Basin Guard Station is accessible via Highway 89, which is approximately 17 miles to the north in St. Charles.

Policies & Rules
General
- Please call the district office at (208) 847-0375 four days prior to arrival to confirm the security combination
- Snow conditions can often affect cabin accessibility in the fall, winter and spring. Please call the Montpelier Ranger District Office to check snow conditions before reserving this cabin from November through June.
- No water is available at the cabin
- Please leave the cabin clean for the next occupant
- This is a pack-it-in/pack-it-out facility
