Boating on the ponderay river is amazing and Riley Creek Looks amazing, has the beach, bathrooms, showers, hookups... But thats where it ends. We stayed Sunday through Friday, Monday morning a garbage truck woke us at 6am slamming around the green bins that are located every 100ft. The Laclede mill is a 24 hr mill, you hear it 24 hours a day, a sound machine couldn't drown out the saws, trains and compression breaks at night. Thursday, they had grounds crew out at 6am with blowers and mowers which just added to the cacophony of sounds. This place is loud, there is no escape. It doubles as a locals hangout, day use, which again is totally fine, except your now fighting for use of the public space not just with campers but the locals. This is hardly camping. The fire pits are 3 ft above the ground, you can't see your flame. There are 4 hosts and it seems they don't communicate, I don't mind attentive hosts but pesky ones are another thing. At the end of the day, I camp to escape the bustle of the world, but at Riley Creek there is no escape. We won't be back :(
