About Pebble Guard Station

Pebble Guard Station is located at the base of Bonneville Peak along beautiful Pebble Creek, a tributary of the Portneuf River. The rustic one-room cabin offers a secluded retreat on four fenced acres, surrounded by high mountain vistas. The original Pebble Guard Station was built in 1908. The current structure stands at a higher altitude and was built in 1933. Guests can drive to Pebble Guard Station during warmer months, but it can only be accessed by snowmobile or other snow means in the winter. Those arriving in winter should expect to haul their gear and supplies for about 6 miles on a groomed trail. The cabin supplies most of the comforts of home, especially during the warmer months, but guests may need to bring some additional items.

What Guests Are Saying

The Pebble Guard Station offers a beautiful and private setting with great access to the Big Springs area, making it an excellent choice for nature lovers. However, guests have reported significant fly and bug issues, which detracted from their experience. While some found it to be an enjoyable stay despite cleanliness concerns and lack of electricity, others were disappointed and sought alternative accommodations.

Major Fly Issue!!!
My family and I drove up to the cabin and had a pleasant time, until we opened the cabin up to see HUNDREDS of flies either dead or hibernating for the winter. They were covering the floors, table, counter space, and window sills; and I mean COVERING. We cleaned as much as possible to have a good experience but once the fire was started the flies were waking up; 5 turned into 10, then 15, and then they were biting myself, spouse, and dog. We left after 2-3 hours of staying and fly biting.
If there were no fly issue it would have been better, but it needs serious attention to get rid of these flies and fast. We stayed in late fall/early winter.

If you don’t mind no electricity (there is gas), and an outhouse bathroom, then this place is great. Great access to Big Springs area

We really enjoyed out time at the guard station. It was not very clean but that was expected. We were advised that the propane heater did not work so we were prepared with our own heat source. Overall, it is an excellent place to stay. It is very beautiful there.

The cabin was covered in dead bugs. Im not saying like there were a couple bugs in the corners of the room. Every single windowsill was not visible due to it being completely covered with bugs. You could not walk to the beds without taking a single step that would not step on at least 5 bugs. In addition to the dead bugs there were hundreds of flies flying around in the cabin. I requested a refund a week ago, still no answer. We booked a hotel in Lava Springs for the two nights we wanted to stay here. The propane lights also did not work.

Currently had no water. The cabin is private and away from road. There is not a lot of time spent in cabin during day since it is small, dark and hot. The view is amazing.

Cabin isn't set up really well. Isn't a lot of natural light in where the table and beds are so you don't want to hang out in there a bunch. Was dirty when we arrived. Beautiful area and conveniently located near Lava HS.

Could not make it to facility. Road was obstructed by over a foot of water/mud. Requires 4wd/high clearance. Not as advertised, and caused a night of infuriation.
Also, it took forever and a week for them to respond to several phone calls for the access code we were never able to use.
