The spot is beautiful and well maintained. However, there was a wasp nest inside the electrical box. When my husband unplugged he was stung. Since he's allergic we ended up in the ER.

Dam West is one of our favorite Campgrounds on Lake Carlyle. There are walking trails. The one we like is over the dam. You can fish, boat, go to beach or just sit and watch the boats. There are restaurants and a Super Walmart in walking condition. A shell Gas/Diesel Station about 5 mins away. A short drive to Carlyle and there is a great Ice Cream Store. There are other places to drive to for interesting little towns. You will enjoy Dam West for a days stop or a few days. We enjoy going Monday through Friday.

Disappointed with check out. Check out time is posted as 4:00 on hanging tag, website, reservations, etc. Check in is posted as 5:00 pm. Before 3 pm, our camp host came by and removed our campsite tag and told us the next guests were here already and waiting. As soon as we can get packed up, he’ll send them on back. My daughter and I weren’t planning to pack up completely yet and had to throw our things in our car because he went ahead and sent them back right then as they sat there in front of the camp spot and watched us packing up so they could take our spot early, on our dime. It was terribly rude and should not have been allowed to happen. I saw this going on with others earlier in the day as well.

Host and hostess are ALWAYS kind and friendly. They know the rules and the process very well and answered our questions. Campground is always clean and maintained. There are some dead trees that need to come down to protect the campers and guests.

Quick stop between NC and NE. Didn’t get to experience much of the amenities, but the Dam and reservoir looked like fun! Hosts were nice!
