What Guests Are Saying
Blanding Landing is a well-maintained campground with clean restrooms and showers, friendly hosts, and a beautiful location along the Mississippi River. Many visitors appreciated the ample shade and recreational opportunities, such as a nearby boat ramp. However, frequent train traffic can be disruptive, especially at night, so light sleepers should prepare accordingly.

The place was great but the bugs and the awful train passing every so often also the smoke from fires didn’t help

There are several really good things about Blanding Landing. If you want to spend time in Galena and Galena Territories, this is a is a great location. The rest rooms are spotless and the park is well kept. The reason for the 3 Star rating is that there are double train tracks right next to it and the trains all blow their horns for a rarely used intersection just up the way. If they (or Recreation.gov) could negotiate a ‘quiet zone’ with the railroads, the rating would jump to a 4-5.

The camp host, Paul I believe, was super professional, helpful with explaining things around the area and kind. He kept the grounds clean, did rounds to ensure safety and kept the restroom/showers super clean.
I stayed at site 1, which was by the water. I found ample afternoon shade from the tree cover along the river. The mosquitos were not as bad as expected being close to the water. Though the train did come by, it was not as constant as stated in some reviews. One nite it was about every 2-3 hours while another night, it only went by a few times.

I enjoyed it. We were in spot 11 on the West loop. One thing I have to say is the bathrooms were spotless. Even the pit toilets. My only complaint would be the trains. There was a line in the Blues Bros. movie. In Elwoods hotel room. " How often does the train go by? So often you don't even notice."
I'd stay there again.

Nice campground with grass sites. Some of the sites were not level. Bathrooms and showers were spotless. Paul, the campground host, was very knowledgeable and professional.
As mentioned in other reviews, the big downside was the noise from the freight trains. Paul said there was an accident at the nearby crossing, so now it is a "four whistle" crossing right outside the campground.
