We are very impressed with the campground. The sites are spacious, hook up is easy. The park is well maintained and it is very nice to walk the trails and watch the wildlife and birds. Our "neighbors" have been congenial and helpful sharing camping tips.
The rangers and staff have been most accommodating. We have one cute story to relate. One evening a pretty lab came to our door and started barking. Thinking she was lost my husband used our dog's leash to take her down to the ranger station only to find out that she lives on a nearby farm and comes over for visits. Needless to say we released her.
We had two separate instances of bad weather and both times we took shelter in the concrete bath house near us. There were quite a few of us in there but the storm passed and no great damage was done.
Our only suggestion would be to update these smaller bathrooms. They are in need of repair.
We intend to return to the campgrounds often. It is a short drive for us and we are familiar with the nearby towns.

Our campsite was level with great shade. Plenty of room to park our boat along side our camper. We enjoyed watching the squirrels and deer around our campsite. The gate attendants were friendly and our checkin went without a hitch. We will definitely be back.

Nice place to stay. I wish more sites were available to reserve instead of first come first serve. Coon creek is a 2 hour drive for us and if all reserved sites are booked, we risk showing up and having all the first come first serve being occupied. Camp store is nice. It offered items we forgot to pack and the ice cream is a bonus

I was a little disappointed with the site we were at, usually when we stay at a Corp of engineers camp ground the sites are usually very clean and well groomed, this time not so much, I was very disappointed with the shower house we were closest to, no ventilation, the door didnt lock in the only one that had a light. With the current covid epidemic I would have expected the whiff of bleach at the very least in the bathrooms and shower houses, at the very least very early in the morning a light smell of a pine cleaner was what we got. Not a great stay this time

We had one little incident. A tree fell on our site during all of the rain. However, I called and a ranger was there within 30 minutes. The tree was taken care the same afternoon. Thank you.

From Shelbyville, Illinois: Go 4.5 miles north of Shelbyville on State Route 128 to County Road 1750 N. Turn right (east) and drive 0.9 miles to County Road 1900 E. Make a left (north) and go 0.35 mile to County Road 1785 N. Turn right (east) and drive 1.75 miles to County Road 2075 E. Turn right (south) and go 1.7 miles to the facility.
The campground is accessible via State Route 128, which connects to nearby roads including County Roads. There are no interstates or major highways within 25 miles of the location.

- Attention – Customers who do not arrive at the campground by on the day after scheduled arrival date will be No Showed. Please Review the R1S No Show policy for complete details.
- Must have a reservation prior to setting up on site.
- Must check-in at fee booth during normal operation hours.
- No alcohol permitted in beach area.
- Tent camping is always permitted, but not recommended for some sites
- One RV and three tents or four tents per site
- Two RVs and six tents, or eight tents for double sites
- The banks are steep and it may be difficult to get to the water from many sites
- No outside firewood allowed; obtain or purchase firewood at or near your camping destination and burn it on-site; firewood can carry invasive insects and diseases that destroy forests; learn more
