Coon Creek is a large campground that sits on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville in the heart of central Illinois. The campsite was nice, mostly shaded, and for the most part clean. My major issue was how narrow the site was. In order to reach the hook ups I had to pull to the rear of the site and when I walked out my trailer door I was in my fire pit, which no one had ever cleaned. In order to walk on the pad I had to pull the picnic table off of the pad. But the new bathrooms were wonderful and there was a nice amount of space between the sites. So overall I was happy with my experience.

The campsite was not cleaned up. There were several larger branches on the parking area and picnic table. There was also a tiki torch tossed in the grass. I remember when the spots were cleaned up after every visitor.

Only one boat at a time on the ramp! Very small dock and a Looong way UP...to the parking lot, so you could be in for a wait to get in or out of the water. Good protected cove to launch however. Camping is a bargain for full hook up..and 1/2 price with interagency pass! Clean showers , nice level sights for the most part. Some sites you could beach your boat below and walk up to.

  • Attention – Customers who do not arrive at the campground by on the day after scheduled arrival date will be No Showed. Please Review the R1S No Show policy for complete details.
  • Must have a reservation prior to setting up on site.
  • Must check-in at fee booth during normal operation hours.
  • No alcohol permitted in beach area.
  • Tent camping is always permitted, but not recommended for some sites
  • One RV and three tents or four tents per site
  • Two RVs and six tents, or eight tents for double sites
  • The banks are steep and it may be difficult to get to the water from many sites
  • No outside firewood allowed; obtain or purchase firewood at or near your camping destination and burn it on-site; firewood can carry invasive insects and diseases that destroy forests; learn more
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
