This is our favorite campground in S. IL and we stay as often as we can. That said, not always is our favorite campsites available due to the popularity of this campground. Our site this time was not level in multiple angles and we were pelted by thousands of acorns. Obviously, our favorite campsite is mostly level and acorn-free. Just a warning to November campers, do not be afraid to look out your window to see dozens of deer hanging from the trees at many campsites for you are in the middle of a local hunting season nearby. We know the infrastructure is subject to a lot of wear and tear. Make sure you bring waterproof shoes when connecting to the freshwater supply at the dump station and plumbing leaks have necessitated reaching 3-5 feet to attach your water hose or to turn on/off the water. I had to step in a pool of water 8 feet wide to connect/disconnect my hoses and from memory, this has been several years now in a row during our visits. I wish that more campsites had been more level, some of their other newer properties got this right, and some of the older properties seemed to be built by non-RVers in the sense that LEVEL wasn't a prime design criterion. Nonetheless, we love this campground and have stayed here on and off for many years now.

Great place to camp, we just had our 38th deer camp there, a far cry from its humble beginning! Thanks for a wonderful experience U.S. Army Corps of Engineers!

The Gun Creek campground is super nice. The sites are clean and so are the restrooms and shower houses. Overall, I love Gun Creek and will most definitely be back!

Nice facility. Had a bad 50 amp outlet on the service. Told them about it after hours. They had it fixed the next morning. They would have done it immediately but I told them I was getting by fine on 30 amp.

Nice camp spot. The fire pit and picnic table needs to be closer to the camping pad.

Clean, quiet campground. Granted it was pretty cold for an opening weekend but grounds, staff, and facilities were ready to go. Staff was great and very responsive. The handle on our water faucet was broken but still usable. Since we were leaving the next day, I told the staff that they could come by after we left to replace it. The repairman was there in about an hour and had it repaired very quickly. The pictures on the website were deceiving as the sites are bigger than they appear in them. Descriptions on the site are pretty much spot on. Looking forward to our next stay there.

Could use another dumpster location and to empty them more frequently, they were overflowing and out of the way. Otherwise, it was a really cool setup with nice campsites.
