We stayed over night on our last leg of a two week trip. The campground is very clean and campsites are not on top of each other. The best pro is a 4:00 checkout.
The con - The noise level from the highway is very loud at night. Looking at the distance of the highway to campground, you wouldn’t think the noise would be disturbing. This con is why I didn’t give the campground a five star rating.

One of our favorites along In 57 in Illinois! If the had FHU’s and level sites, it would be a 5 star campground.

The campground is in a nice location. Each site is medium sized - some have full hook-ups, but most have only electricity. The centrally located bathhouse is on the oldish side - but it's kept up and is cleaned well each day. The showers are nice but the shower heads are locked in a fixed position and spray water pretty far outside the shower area and got my clothes wet. The thing I saw multiple times during my stay were people making a mess in the dump station. One person flat-out dumped their black tank straight onto the pavement. It's a nice dump station - but a good percentage of the people abuse it.

Gun Creek is always great. Added a day and Diana at the gate was very helpful. Spot 8 was very level and shaded.

Even though it rained most of the time we were there, the Bath House is always clean and plenty of hot water! Mist of the sites are easy to get into and are fairly level. There are a handful of sites that really angle down hill. Gun Creek has easy interstate on and off. Some highway noise, very tolerable. Plenty to do and wildlife to see in the area. Camp hosts are very personable and friendly. We camp there several time a season with our friends.

Gun creek is our favorite campground to camp at Rend lake . Some camp spots could use some work.

From I-57 take exit 77 and turn west on Route 154. Turn left onto Gun Creek Trail/Larry Foster Parkway, then right onto Golf Course Road. Continue 1/2 mi to park entrance.

Gun Creek Campground is accessible from I-57 via exit 77, approximately 1 mile away. Illinois Route 154 runs directly in front of the campground, providing further access.
