Add more full hookup sites

Traveling on the interstate 57 and needed a place to sleep, shower (across from site C59) and make dinner. Location is perfectly located off the interstate on a beautiful lake. Price was right @ $18 Cardinal loop (no water) and slept like a baby. We booked it from our phone 5 min before pulling in. I will gladly pay $18 a night for a safe, quiet site with electricity and shower.

Site was great for lake front. But it does have a good amount of slope so if you have a larger unit, it could be difficult to get level.

This is a nice campground, but there were several negatives concerning our site. We were in site 18. First, the positives. This site is a full hookup site with water and sewer. There are only a few full hookup sites in the park. There is a golf course with a restaurant in close proximity. A local winery is only a couple of miles away. They have a tasting room, and food trucks that come in on Sunday afternoons where you can also listen to live music.

Now the negatives. The gnats and mosquitos were horrible. You could hardly breathe without a mask to keep them out of your body. They would swam inside when we opened the door. We bought some tiki torches which helped a little, but not a lot. The picnic table and fire ring were behind the coach, and we had very little patio area. The camper on our patio side was extremely close. The trees around our campsite had some kind of parasite which formed golf ball sized fungus nodules on stems which covered the patio, and dropped down on the roof of the RV. And possibly because of the large gnat population, we had a huge herd of spiders that built webs all over our RV. We parked the coach near enough to the patio side of the asphalt parking pad so that the steps hung past the edge, and used our portable step to overcome the drop down. We did not use the restrooms or shower facilities. We did notice that many of the other sites, particularly the ones with waterfront access, were extremely slanted and unlevel. We saw some travel trailers with the hitch almost on the ground, and the rear stabilizers on blocks.

If you stay here, take time to drive a few miles north to Burton's restaurant. They have great food, and are famous for their white pie, which is kind of like a light custard. I would give it a rating of 4 yummies.

We had decent wifi connection with our Verizon hotspot. Cell phone signal over AT&T was spotty, and we had to drive over to the golf course to get a good enough signal to make phone calls.

great place but to many skunks at night have to stay in camper can not enjoy the camp fire.

Great site plenty of shade, family loved our 2 week vacation and always look forward to the next one!

Beautiful, immaculate campground with large well maintained sites. The only thing lacking is Wifi......

We always enjoy our time at Gun Creek and will certainly be back. However, this review is more of warning to fellow campers. Be aware of your surroundings as there are A LOT of skunks throughout the campground! In a one hour evening walk, we saw 6 then had one try to pass through our site around 10:30 pm so 7 were counted in total.

Gun Creek Campground is an awesome campground. Campground Host and Gate Attendants were very friendly and helpful. One night a very bad storm was coming in, and the Host went around each campsite to warn of them upcoming storm. Bathrooms were very clean and grass was mowed while we were there. We love the location because it is the closest campground to the fish cleaning station at a local bait shop. Gun Creek is our first choice of all of the Rend Lake Campgrounds.
